### JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Domestic Assistant

REPORTS TO: Domestic Manager/Supervisor

ACCOUNTABLE TO: General Manager Trust wide Catering/Domestic Services NHSCT

### JOB SUMMARY

The post holder is part of a team responsible for developing and maintaining a high standard of service to all patient/clients/staff/customers.

The post holder will assist in the provision of Domestic Services within N.H.S.C.T. and assist in providing these services to the highest possible standard, within budgetary requirements with Domestic Safety procedures.

### KEY RESULT AREAS / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Floor maintenance duties to include use of vacuum cleaners, buffing and floor scrubbing machines.

Cleaning all sanitary areas.

Cleaning of all furniture/fittings and general dusting duties, low and high level cleaning.

Removal and rehanging of bed screens, curtains etc.

Cleaning of walls, windows, glass partitions and other periodic duties as required such as carpet cleaning.

The collection and removal of waste and replacement of waste sacks, hand-towels, soaps, toilet rolls, etc.

Carry out Ward Catering and Kitchen Duties as required

Receipt and storage of cleaning materials.

General securing of buildings. (May include operation of electronic alarm systems).

Carry out other duties including Catering as may be assigned from time to time by the Support Services Supervisor and General Manager Domestic Services Trustwide.

Observation of Trust Policies and Procedures relating to Domestic Services and Catering as instructed.

Removal and re-changing of bed screens and curtains.

Carry out, sign and date all cleaning duties in accordance with cleaning schedules.

Ordering, receiving and receipting non-foodstuffs and cleaning materials.

Following cleaning methods as per instruction and work schedules for all equipment, surfaces and floors.

Wearing of protective clothing supplied and adherence to C.O.S.H.H. and Health and Safety regulations at all times.

Attend all relevant training/refresher training sessions.

Communicating with patients regarding complaints and during daily tasks.

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required by the General Manager/Deputy General Manager for Domestic Services.

### HOURS

Monday to Friday – 12.5hrs per week

Normal full-time hours of duty are 37½ hours per week, exclusive of meal times

### MEDICAL

Appointment will be subject to a successful pre-employment health assessment.

### HOLIDAYS

27 days each year; 29 days after 5 years’ service; 33 days after 10 years’ service and 10 statutory and public holidays. Pro Rata

### PROBATIONARY PERIOD

You will serve a probationary period of normally six months.

### PAY PROTECTION

Legacy Trust Staff who apply for a promotion after 1 April 2011 should be aware that they will lose their legacy protection arrangements and will be entitled to pay protection in accordance with circular HSS (JNF)(1) 2011.

This circular will also apply to legacy staff who are currently in receipt of protection and who move post on promotion.

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
