This is an exceptional opportunity to join Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as our next Divisional Director of Operations for Medicine & Emergency Care.

As one of the Trust's most senior operational leaders, you will play a pivotal role in leading one of our largest and most strategically important Divisions at a time of significant opportunity and transformation. Working in partnership with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and effective services across a diverse portfolio of medicine and emergency care services, ensuring the best possible outcomes and experiences for our patients.

This role offers the opportunity to influence services at scale, lead complex operational challenges, and contribute directly to the delivery of our organisational strategy within one of the largest integrated NHS providers in the region.

### Main duties of the job

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide visible and inspirational leadership across the Division, with responsibility for:

- Delivering high-quality, patient-centred services that achieve national, regional, and local performance standards.
- Leading operational performance, service transformation, and continuous improvement programmes.
- Ensuring robust financial stewardship and delivery of agreed financial plans.
- Driving improvements in productivity, patient flow, quality, and patient experience.
- Developing strong clinical and operational partnerships across the Trust and wider health and care system.
- Leading and developing high-performing multidisciplinary teams through a culture of inclusion, innovation, and accountability.
- Contributing to corporate leadership and the achievement of Trust-wide objectives.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

About You

We are looking for an experienced, credible, and ambitious NHS leader with:

- Significant senior operational management experience within a complex acute healthcare environment.
- A proven track record of delivering operational performance, transformation, and financial improvement.
- Extensive experience of working in partnership with senior clinicians and professional leaders.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing abilities.
- The resilience and leadership presence to operate successfully within a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- A commitment to compassionate leadership, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and demonstrate evidence of significant leadership and management development commensurate with a senior executive role.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant recent experience of Divisional management at a senior level in the NHS with, responsibility for operational matters, including clinical quality staff management, budgetary responsibility, performance targets, waiting list management, discharge arrangements.

**Desirable**

- A relevant clinical background

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Management qualification, MBA or equivalent.

**Desirable**

- ECDL or equivalent Microsoft Office training/ expertise
