### Job overview

You will be accountable to the professional lead for Nutrition and Dietetics, and you will be based at Northampton General Hospital (NGH) site within the dietetic teams based there. The post involves providing a service to inpatients at Northampton General Hospital. This will be primarily medical wards. You will have an outpatient clinic and will have a role in dietetic student training and educating staff within the multi-disciplinary team on identifying and managing nutritional risk.

NGH is part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) trust and Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust host and employ dietitians who work for UHN

### Main duties of the job

The role involves:

- an inpatient caseload in Northampton General Hospital or Kettering General Hospital which make up the newly formed University Hospitals of Northamptonshire
- input into outpatient clinics where you will see a wide range of referrals
- provide training to health care staff
- input into the pre-registration training of dietetic students
- service improvement projects and producing and updating resources
- Using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to complete dietetic assessments and implement treatment plans. This will include using listening skills and behaviour change skills to motivate patients to change their lifestyle behaviours and communication in a way to meet inclusion and diversity needs \[JG1\]
- Providing advice and training to patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare professionals to promote an understanding of the aims of dietetic treatment to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
- Organising and prioritisation of own workload and managing clinical risk within caseload
- Supporting training for dietetic learners and providing practice education experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
