### Job overview

Due to a service redesign to increase diagnostic capacity in Ophthalmology services across Staffordshire and Derbyshire localities, we are looking to significantly expand our team of Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technicians (DOT's) to support with the implementation of new diagnostic lanes.

These diagnostic lanes will provide the throughput needed to meet the current and future demand in Ophthalmology with this model creating a sustainable service which safely manages the increasing demand in Ophthalmology.

An exciting opportunity has therefore arisen for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Diagnostic Ophthalmic team to provide high quality Ophthalmic diagnostic assessments across the Derbyshire and Staffordshire areas.

This vacancy will be based at Royal Derby Hospital.

### Main duties of the job

Clinical duties to be undertaken across the UHDB Trust sites include:

- Optical Coherance Tomography of the Optic nerve and Retinal nerve fibre layer. - Optical Coherence Tomography of the Retina and Macula. - Static perimetry using the Humphrey Visual Field analyser. - Fundus photography. - Focimetry and transposition. - Intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements using non-contact tonometry (e.g. iCare tonometer). - Biometry - with appropriate training and competency assessments, on a clinical need basis (site dependent). - Visual Acuity assessment

The successful candidates will also provide training to less experienced Diagnostic Ophthalmic Technicians and will assess their competencies in line with departmental guidelines and the appropriate care certificate modules.

Administrative duties will be undertaken as required at the request of the Lead DOT and Orthoptic staff.  Closing date of applications: 15 July 2026

- Competent in and experience of performing Biometry using the IOL Master, A scan and Keratometer, Visual Acuity assessment (using LogMAR), Non-Contact Intraocular Pressure measurement

### Education, Training and Qualifications

- 5 GCSE’s to include Math’s, English and Science at grades A-C or equivalent experience
