Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

Band 7 - 30hours/week - Permanent

An exciting opportunity has come up to join the integrated diabetes team at Stockport NHS foundation trust as a permanent band 7 diabetes dietitian.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and committed Dietitian who will work as integral member of highly performing diabetes team working at Kingsgate house and Stepping Hill hospital. The team members work closely with the diabetes consultants, other health care professionals, carers, patients and family members to optimise glycaemic control and improve long-term health and quality of life.

As a diabetes specialist dietitian, you will be providing support to diabetes team based in the community at Kingsgate house and supporting the Transition and young adult service along with MDT clinics at the Stepping Hill hospital.

Prior insulin pump knowledge is desirable, and preference will be given to the candidates with insulin pump experience. Dietitian will provide expert diabetes dietary advice including carb counting and structured education. Support with service development and innovation, ensuring our patients receive the highest standards of care.

### Main duties of the job

To contribute to Nutrition and Dietetic Services in Stockport by providing:

- To lead and develop the dietetic intervention of the  Diabetes pathway and MDT clinic
- To support the  MDT in developing, establishing and evaluating the new emerging pathway
- Be responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating clinical case work within the  Diabetes service
- To provide evidence based, highly specialist knowledge and skills to the Diabetes service
- To support the training, education and learning of the team and services across the system.
- Provide a key role in partnership working with patients, carers, the MDT, and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
- To take a lead with quality improvements in the Diabetes service
- To take responsibility for staff and student training and development.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Professional knowledge acquired through science degree
- Knowledge of NHS policies
- Understanding of the role of nutrition in adult medicine
- Understanding of multidisciplinary working in a acute setting
- Specialist level of knowledge, understanding and clinical reasoning skills to support experience clinical practice in management of diabetes

**Desirable**

- Motivational skills training
- DAFNE training

### Experience

**Essential**

- Post-graduate experience in nutrition and dietetic care of patients
- Experience of working with diabetes patients
- Experience of working with patients who have long term condition
- Comprehensive, relevant and recent experience working in a wide variety of clinical areas
- Experience in diabetes management
- Experience of training healthcare and other professionals
- Carbohydrate counting
- Experience of working with young adult with diabetes

**Desirable**

- Experience of using MUST assessment and care plans
- Gestational diabetes
- Use of insulin pumps

- BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (or equivalent qualification)
- Registered dietitian-Health Professions Council
- Experience in nutritional management to masters level or equivalent
- Masters level or equivalent courses or experience in relevant speciality

**Desirable**

- UK driving licence
- Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
- Member of BDA sub-group
- Validate post-graduate training in diabetes
- DAFNE educator
