A fantastic secondment opportunity is now available for a Dietitian seeking to develop their career in Diabetes. Come and join our busy yet award‑winning team and contribute to improving the lives of people living with diabetes. This secondment post runs until the end of March 2027.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to:

- Co‑lead our award‑winning Diabetes Health Inequalities Project, working to reduce disparities in diabetes care.
- Gain experience across the inpatient diabetes service, community dietetic service, the local council, and voluntary sector organisations to deliver health promotion events and run clinics.
- Provide a comprehensive Nutrition and Dietetic Service within the North Mid community diabetes service—both virtually and in person—including patients in the Enfield community service.
- Co-lead the development and delivery of education programmes for patients and staff both within and outside the Trust, including structured education programmes.
- Develop diabetes education resources, including materials for carbohydrate counting.
- Work alongside the Clinical Nurse Lead to coordinate, implement, and evaluate the adult diabetes dietetic service.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to colleagues within the Diabetes Service, Therapy Services, other Trust professionals, and regional partner

### Main duties of the job

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients under your care.

To ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under your management and support junior staff to do likewise.

To be responsible for the strategic provision of specialized dietetic service to the Diabetes clinics, peer support groups and structured group programme.

To provide expert advice to the team based on interpretation of nutritional status, biochemical and physiological parameters.

To assess, treat and provide highly specialist treatment and advice plans to patients, carers and clinicians, regarding the provision of nutritional support based on clinical evidence, as a vital part of the patient treatment plan.

To conduct highly complex nutritional assessments and treatments, including the calculation of nutritional requirements, interpretation of medical information, pharmacology, biochemistry, haematology, anthropometry, clinical conditions/s and other physical parameters. This will require analyzing complex, conflicting and contentious information, including ethical dilemmas regarding nutritional support/continuation of nutritional support, ensuring appropriate treatment and monitoring is provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the strategic provision of specialized dietetic service to the Diabetes clinics, peer support groups and structured group programme.

To be able to use computer database for assessment of patients’ nutritional requirements and dietary assessments. Negotiating skills will be required to consider the appropriate treatment from a range of possible options.

The appropriate nutritional care plans need to be practical, realistic and evidence based to suit a patient’s needs.

To ensure the relevant and appropriate monitoring and follow-up is in place as part of the treatment plan.

To take the lead in providing expert dietetic advice in making decisions on initiating artificial nutritional support, analyzing the range of options available.

To offer clinical expert advice to the MDT.

To liaise with the community teams for specialist products and prescriptions.

To provide a clinical dietetic service with written information to patients, carers and other health professionals. To develop a comprehensive library of clinical references and specialist product information.

To initiate and participate in research and audit in the Diabetes areas. Results of findings should be reported within and out-with the Trust.

COMMUNICATION

Ensure that the standards of nursing and care deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to every patient, every time.

Care and compassion: Ensure that any escalation of care concerns or safeguarding escalations are made robustly through the appropriate channel.

### Education and qualifications

**Essential**

- BSc in Dietetics 4-year degree course or equivalent
- State Registered Dietitian with HPC
- BDA member

**Desirable**

- BDA member of one specialist group
