The Deputy Ward Manager will provide visible clinical leadership and operational support within the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Princess of Wales Hospital. Working closely with the Ward Manager, Senior Nurse, Lead Nurse and multidisciplinary team, the post holder will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care to patients presenting with acute medical conditions.

The post holder will support the day-to-day management of the unit, deputising for the Ward Manager in their absence and taking responsibility for coordinating clinical activity, patient flow, staffing resources and service delivery across a 24-hour service. They will act as a role model for professional practice, promoting evidence-based care, patient safety and positive patient experience.

As a senior clinical leader within the ward, the Deputy Ward Manager will contribute to workforce management, staff supervision, education and development, ensuring compliance with professional, organisational and regulatory standards. They will support clinical governance activities, including audits, incident investigations, complaints management, quality improvement initiatives and risk management processes.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be part of a fantastic team to take charge of the Acute Medical Unit.

The successful candidate will be an experienced staff nurse to provide support and guidance to junior members of the team.

Exciting internal and external opportunities exist within the unit for training and development in dealing with acutely unwell patients.

Along with the relevant Acute Medical  experience, the successful candidate would be required to display excellent communication and interpersonal skills, functioning effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

The candidate would require excellent organisation, time management and delegation skills as part of their role and have the ability to work effectively in challenging situations.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements.
