An exciting opportunity has arisen here at Aintree for a dynamic Deputy Ward Manager to join our existing  Day Surgical team, to support  our busy Day surgical Ward , assisting the Theatre lead in overseeing the daily clinical, operational and financial management of a fast- paced unit, providing clinical excellence & Nursing leadership where experience in surgical nursing and specifically nurse led discharge is a necessity.

### Main duties of the job

Core responsibilities

- Operational Leadership: Manage the day-to-day running of the ward, coordinate patient admission and discharge, and ensure appropriate staffing levels and safe skill mixes.
- Clinical Excellence: Act as a visible clinical leader, guiding junior staff, assessing complex care needs, and deputising for the Theatre Manager in their absence.
- Patient Experience: Champion a personalised, seamless patient journey from pre-op assessment through to post-operative recovery and discharge
- Governance & Audit: Lead on clinical governance by conducting audits, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with local and national healthcare standards.
- Staff Development: Facilitate training, perform appraisals, and support the continuous professional development of the nursing team.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is for a experienced Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager, the successful applicant will work as part of an experienced senior team in delivering a high standard of care and support to patients and staff within the unit, alongside the Theatre lead. Working in a busy dynamic 22 bedded unit with separate local pathway discharge lounge, incorporating all surgical specialities including, Ophthalmology, MFU, EGSU, UGI, ENT, Vascular, Orthopaedic ambulatory Trauma and Dermatology. The unit predominately provides care for a high volume of day case surgical patients, making the unit fast paced and varied with an emphasis on a nurse led discharge pathway; allowing nursing staff to use their clinical judgement alongside surgical instructions and outcomes to safely discharge our patients.
