As the Ophthalmic Theatres Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse you will work as part of the Ophthalmology Team providing care to those will undergo a range of surgical eye procedures. You will also form part of the Ophthalmology Leadership Team and support the Clinical Lead in line managing the nursing team. You should therefore demonstrate a calm, composed and caring approach whilst working under pressure. We are looking to recruit a motivated and dynamic leader who can bring enthusiasm and ophthalmic experience to our busy department. ### Main duties of the job The successful post holder will support the Clinical Lead in the effective day-to-day management of the Ophthalmic Theatres, ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality , and patient centered ophthalmic care. They will provide clinical leadership and supervision to the nursing team, acting as a role model and promoting best practice in all aspects of patient care. In addition, they will assist in the coordination and delivery of care for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgical and diagnostic procedures, ensuring adherence to local and national guidelines. They will contribute to the monitoring and maintenance of clinical standards, infection prevention and health and safety within the unit. The successful candidate will be a main point of contact to the Ophthalmic Theatres and will deputise for the Clinical Lead as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational effectiveness within the unit. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities - To exercise leadership by personal example, fostering good interpersonal relationships and encouraging high staff morale - Co-ordinate and communicate the placement of appropriate personnel/skills across the department - Participate in the management of resources in the clinical area within the agreed budget. - Implement Trust and directorate evidence based policies and guidelines - Work closely with own team, Team leader and Senior Nurse Manager to promote good   working relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team - Foster and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas of the Trust and with other hospitals/practices. - Manage staff performance and development through a process of appraisal, which should include a cycle of constructive performance review and the establishment of a relevant personal development plan - Act as a resource for the support and guidance of staff, patients and relatives - Participate in the monitoring and management of staff sickness and absence Please refer to the Job Description for the full specification of responsibilities and requirements for this post.
