### Job overview

This busy purpose built Haematology/Oncology Unit is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate Deputy ward sister  with good organisational and communication skills, to compliment the existing team .

Day-care Unit  comprised of 14 chair treatment area,  a private patient room,  and many clinic rooms. The day unit is very busy seeing approx 250 patients per week.

### Main duties of the job

- To support the ward sister in managing the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.

- To participate in the development of patient pathways, policies and protocols, to enable changes in practice to be achieved, implemented, evaluated and disseminated.

- To be involved in the development of the Haematology and Oncology Cancer Nursing Service, in collaboration with the MDT, to meet patient and service needs.

- To build effective working relationships with the multidisciplinary teams within and across providers, to meet patient and service needs, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views.

- To provide, receive, interpret and communicate complex information with a range of health care personnel.

- To ensure that all LERNs are investigated in a timely manner and in accordance with Trust policy and to escalate appropriately incidents following investigation of complaints or LERNs.

- To ensure all staff are provided with individual and team feedback on reported incidents and the actions take and to disseminate widely any learning points to the whole team.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Developments in specialty treatments at national and local levels. Theoretical and practical knowledge of Haematology/Oncology. Conversant with developments related to Chemotherapy at national and local levels. Knowledge of key principles of the risk management process. Ability to co-ordinate duty rotas, taking into account skill mix requirements. Understanding of team dynamics to ensure effective team working.

**Desirable**

- CQC standards. Evidence of knowledge and managing staff through human policies and procedures. Able to undertake performance reviews and manage issues pertaining to performance. Awareness of principles of budgetary management and signatory responsibilities. Able to formulate departmental policies. Evidence of managing complaints.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable experience within Haematology and Oncology. Experience of multi-professional working. Experience of teaching.

**Desirable**

- Experience of audit and research.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- NMC registered Nurse. Recognised teaching qualification. Degree/Masers level Specialist course.,sact training

**Desirable**

- 1st level degree or working towards. Physical Examination of the Adult. Advanced Communication Skills / Counselling course.
