The molecular radiotherapy service has expanded over recent years to includes Lu-177 Dotatate therapy, iodine ablation therapy, thyrotoxicosis therapy and Xofigo. The department is accredited by UKAS/MPACE and participates in a number of clinical research trials and works with clinicians and colleagues across the Trust to provide a forward looking and responsive service. The main role of this post is to support and when required deputise for the Lead and taking responsibility for the day to day organisation of the multi- disciplinary Nuclear Medicine team. Additionally, the post holder will act as a lead in a speciality area as required by the relevant accreditation standards. Other delegated duties will include all aspects of staff management from recruitment, appraisal and management of sickness. ### Main duties of the job When deputising the post holder will manage the workload within the service to ensure optimum throughput whilst maintaining a safe environment and highest standard of patient care while ensuring the service achieves waiting times targets. The Deputy Lead will act as a professional resource to the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The post holder will work alongside the professional leads (Nuclear Medicine) and Medical Physics management team to ensure the development and management of all aspects of the Nuclear Medicine service, including research. To act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of work and participate in the training and education of junior staff and students. Lead and promote a culture of continuous improvement in clinical governance, safety and quality management. The post involves diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients and the acquisition and processing of scan data. We are looking to recruit a reliable and flexible person to manage a number of administrative duties within our Department who will need to be organised, enthusiastic and conscientious. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Assist the Service Manager in providing operational management and coordination of the imaging service. Partake in effective management and deployment of staff and will assist with all aspects of the day-to-day management of the imaging department. Assist in the coordination of Quality Standards for imaging (accreditation) Responsible for helping with the coordination of continual improvement of Patient Experience and Quality Care improvement projects (e.g. department wide audits, review of apt letters, reviews etc Demonstrate leadership skills and perform clinical duties to high standards. Maintain the highest levels of knowledge and be aware of the latest guidelines from e.g. BNMS and EANM. Be responsible for ensuring that all activities are executed within a quality framework and conform to Statutory Regulations, approved Codes of Practice and Local Safety Rules i.e. - Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 - The Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 - Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 - The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 - Be familiar with Nuclear Medicine specific regulations such as: - Regulation 2 of the Medicines (Administration of Radioactive Substances) Regulations 1978 - The Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee - The Radioactive Material (Road Transport) Regulations 2002 - Good Manufacturing Practice Guide Maintain level of knowledge on all professional developments and provide clinical support as defined within Local Reporting Policy and while working within own scope and knowledge. Maintain assist and organise/develop training of more junior staff and students Undertake imaging duties to a high standard and remain an expert in Nuclear Medicine procedures Ensure compliance to Clinical Governance and contribute to audits and research.  Organisational Skills Assist in preparation of business plans, maintenance contracts and new service developments as required Help monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of the service and recommend any change needed to achieve appropriate service performance (KPI) Monitor competencies of staff and ensure appropriately trained staff are deployed in appropriate positions. Help to implement continuous development of staff. Physical skills and requirements Comply with and demonstrate correct Manual Handling principles Demonstrate aseptic technique while preparing and administering patient doses. Demonstrate Radiation protection principles Direct Patient Care / Clinical Skills Maintain high professional standards of clinical skill and patient care Will provide care for patients attending the department and ensure the timely delivery of an imaging service to those who require it. Typical duties of care will include escorting patients, providing clear explanations of examination procedures, performing the examination and ensuring patients are discharged safely from the department. This information will need to be provided to patients who have varied understanding of imaging procedures or where there may be barriers to communication.  Assist the service manager in ensuring the needs of patient are kept central as per Department / Trust Philosophy Monitor any national or regional programmes that may be involved in improving patient care and the patient environment and help to implement as appropriate. Service Development Help maintain highest standard of patient care and efficiency Implement recommendations from audits, Quality Improvement and investigations and to participate in the above as needed. Ensure adherence to IR(ME)R and agreed local rules, updating them as needed and ensure that staff members are aware of these using appropriate records (QMS) Assist in the operation of the QA programme  Ensure Health and safety standards and procedures are in place and adhered to Assist the Service Manager to maintain and complete Risk assessments, adverse incidents, Datix reviews and investigations Coordinate and facilitate research activity. Provide support and allocate time for this activity Support and contribute to department research programmes Emotional and Mental Requirements Assist in investigating complaints, incidents, accidents and grievances in accordance with trust policies and procedures Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions in order to maintain service delivery. Must have the ability to work on time sensitive projects to maintain service delivery Work with patients and cases where distressing information might be imparted or required to be imparted. Undertake assessments to assist in maintaining a wellbeing support base for staff to address in times of personal or professional pressure.
