The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) plays a pivotal role in the Medical Directorate leadership team, supporting the delivery of the Trust’s strategic goals by providing leadership on all medical and dental workforce issues, focusing on the key pillars of: Patient Safety & Clinical Outcomes; Workforce & Culture; Clinical transformation & Strategy; Partnerships & Integration

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Transformation, Digital Innovation & Culture (Portfolio Lead) 1. Provide senior clinical leadership for digital transformation, ensuring that digital programmes support improved patient outcomes, safety, reliability, and patient and staff experience. 2. Be a key member of the Clinical Digital Transformation team, providing senior clinical oversight and challenge to digital strategy, prioritisation, and delivery. 3. Provide clinical leadership in preparation for and implementation of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR), ensuring workflow redesign supports clinicians, streamlines processes, reduces administrative burden, and enhances patient safety and care quality, in conjunction with CMO team. 4. Work closely with the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), digital programme teams, and operational leaders to ensure clinical alignment in all digital initiatives, with awareness of digital inclusion. 5. Oversee the safe clinical adoption of new technologies (working with CMO, CNO and Digital teams), such as Electronic Patient Record optimisation, Digital documentation, AI-supported tools where appropriate, Remote monitoring and virtual care models 6. Leadership into clinical teams to ensure digital systems support clinical quality, patient safety, NICE guidance compliance, and effective multidisciplinary communication. 7. Champion a culture of digital inclusion and readiness, supporting clinical staff to adopt new digital practices confidently and safely.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Substantial clinical experience at consultant level
- Strong reputation as a clinician and clinical leader, with a proven track record of producing high quality results in the management and leadership of clinical services
- Experience of job planning, medical appraisal, and the management of performance concerns
- Experience of developing leadership knowledge and skills in others
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex cultural change in clinical environments with empathy, credibility, and emotional intelligence
- Proven ability to build trust and influence across diverse clinical groups, particularly during periods of organisational change.

**Desirable**

- Active as a medical appraiser
- Experience as Case Investigator or Case Manager
- Experience as an enhanced appraiser
- Experience of MHPS

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Fully registered with the GMC with unblemished record
- Post graduate medical qualifications
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Qualification or equivalent experience in management, leadership or quality improvement

**Desirable**

- Trained appraiser
- Evidence of continuing leadership or managerial development
