This is an exciting opportunity to join University Hospitals Dorset at a pivotal stage in the development of our Health Information Management Service.

As Head of Data Assurance Unit and Clinical Coding Training Lead, you will provide senior leadership for clinical coding education, workforce capability, quality assurance and data assurance across the Trust. You will act as the Trust's technical lead authority for clinical coding training and development, helping to strengthen coding quality, documentation standards and organisational assurance.

A key aspect of the role will be establishing and developing a Clinical Coding Training Academy, creating structured learning pathways, supporting professional accreditation and developing future talent through innovative education programmes.

Working closely with operational, clinical, digital and corporate colleagues, you will use assurance intelligence, audit outcomes and workforce insight to deliver targeted improvement initiatives, strengthen coding capability and support income assurance.

We are seeking an experienced, qualified Clinical Coding professional with a strong background in education and workforce development, together with the ability to influence, inspire and lead improvement across complex healthcare organisations.

### Main duties of the job

- Leading the Clinical Coding Data Assurance Unit and providing professional leadership for coding education, capability development and assurance activity.
- Acting as the Trust's Lead Clinical Coding Trainer, designing and delivering training programmes that support workforce development, accreditation and continuous professional development.
- Establishing and developing a Clinical Coding Training Academy, creating structured learning pathways and supporting future workforce sustainability.
- Using audit findings, assurance intelligence and workforce data to identify risks, drive improvement and strengthen coding quality and capability.
- Working with clinicians and operational teams to improve clinical documentation standards and support Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) initiatives.
- Supporting coding quality, financial assurance and data quality activities in partnership with operational and corporate teams.

### Skills

**Essential**

- - Ability to design, develop, and deliver training across multiple delivery formats, including face-to-face, virtual, and digital learning.
- - Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret audit findings, assurance intelligence, and workforce capability data.
- - Ability to code to an expert level of coding accuracy \>95%

**Desirable**

- - Experience of digital content creation (e.g. e-learning modules, recorded sessions, interactive learning resources).
- - Awareness of AI-enabled clinical coding tools and their workforce and training implications.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- - Expert knowledge and application of ICD-10, OPCS-4, and National Clinical Coding Standards and datasets.
- - Understanding of the relationship between coding quality, documentation quality, patient safety, and organisational assurance.
- - Understanding of the relationship between clinical coding, data quality, commissioning, and income

**Desirable**

- - Awareness of national clinical coding development programmes and future classification changes
