Job overview

This role is offered of a permanent basis. The hours are part time, 22.5 hours a week.

The post holder will work closely with CYPS Senior Leads to deliver safe, effective and high-quality services by providing strong clinical leadership and ensuring OT service priorities align with Directorate and Trust values.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical leadership in complex physical disability, ensuring service delivery reflects evidence-based practice and supports continuous learning and improvement.
  • Manage a specialist caseload of children and young people with complex physical healthcare needs, delivering assessments, interventions and treatment programmes in partnership with families.
  • Champion clinical governance, best practice principles and service improvement initiatives.
  • Place the voice and lived experience of children and young people at the centre of decision-making and care planning.

Main duties of the job

  • To hold a complex physical disability clinical caseload through providing clinical assessment and the delivery of treatment programmes for children and young people with a diverse range of physical healthcare needs.
  • Provide support and clinical leadership to band 6 and 5 team members to manage their clinical caseloads.
  • The post holder will be a clinical lead for postural care and equipment provision for children with complex physical disabilities.
  • Hold accountability and provide assurance that the team is continuously striving to provide high quality, safe and effective services that are evidence based and fully adhere to corporate, clinical governance and expected standards of practice across all aspects of clinical delivery, including the effective and safe use of resources and equipment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment that the “voice” and lived experience of the child and young person is at the heart of all CYPS decision making and clinical care planning.
  • The post holder will liaise with other agencies including education settings, social care and voluntary agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

CYPS Occupational Therapy (OT) includes the Home Safety Team and supports children and young people aged 0-18 years old (19 years if in education) within Gloucestershire. The service has a countywide remit and operates within a locality structure.  Key bases are in Cheltenham, Gloucester with some satellite clinical provision in rural localities.

Job description and main duties •    Alongside other CYPS Leads, make an active contribution to o    Embedding a positive, supportive and compassionate leadership culture across CYPS aligned to GHC Trust Values where staff health & wellbeing is maintained as a key priority. o    Supporting integrated working and activity across the CYPS Directorate with the vision of supporting children and young people as an Integrated Directorate to have healthier and happier lives and reach their potential.

  • Through delegated tasks, to support continuous improvement of quality and clinical aspects of service provision through robust audit, Quality Improvement (QI), evaluation, system change and innovation. This will:
  • Reflect local demographic & health needs and priorities and contributing to addressing and reducing health inequalities o    Implement learning from successes, setbacks & continuous improvement cycles o    Champion inclusivity and the recognition that personalised care is key to meeting the range of differing needs of children and young people within Gloucestershire.   o    Ensure establishing new systems and processes are robust and sustainable and deliver real value o    Champion opportunities to develop digitally enabled care throughout the clinical pathway o    Lead the implementation of robust and reportable clinical outcome measures to enhance clinical service delivery
  • Ensure clinical delivery is managed through robust processes and pathways, including reflecting key principles and deliverables within the Care Aims Framework/THRIVE/ Levels of Intervention or other models of delivery •    Deputise for CYPS Leads/Heads when required. •    Contribute to providing out of hours services if requested by CYPS Management •    As delegated, ensure all complaints and incidents are investigated within agreed Trust policy, procedures and time scales and effect any necessary learning changes to practice and service that may result. •    As delegated, to lead team/professional practice development including identifying areas requiring evaluation/audit, “deep dive” or other evaluative review. •    Uphold team/service based Standard Operational Procedures/Operational Handbooks and contribute to annual review and development •    Be accountable for maintaining and developing own profession based skills, knowledge & core competencies by specific standards and Code of Conduct. This will be through regular continuing professional development (CPD) activities including reflective practice, maintenance of a personal portfolio and the attendance of relevant training courses as identified within annual appraisal process
