## Job Content

### Job overview

The postholder will be part of the senior clinical team with a priority on the delivery of the service. Whilst you will take responsibility for your own training and development, the Trust will offer you opportunities to further your knowledge and skills and you will be assigned an Educational Supervisor. You will work in accordance with the GMC Good Medical Practice and Trust policies and engage in revalidation and appraisal.

Applicants should have completed their specialty training in Ophthalmology and fulfil all the competencies of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Specialty Training Curriculum in this respect.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide extensive clinical and surgical experience in the diagnosis and management of anterior segment disease (Corneal/External diseases and Refractive) and General Ophthalmology including Oculoplastics. The post holder will be expected to participate in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients with all types of anterior segment diseases primarily but will also provide General Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic services and to undertake surgery on such cases both under supervision and independently.

The post holder will be encouraged to develop their clinical skills and progress in the post, taking on an increasingly complex caseload. Whilst service delivery is important, contributions to the wider trust as a medical leader in fields such as research, audit, outcomes, management and teaching will be expected and supported by the department and QVH.

The ability to provide unsupervised cataract surgery to a competent level is non-negotiable and a fundamental requirement of the Fellowship. Inability to provide this service may lead to the termination of contract.
