The Urology Consultants share the responsibility of providing Urology services for the local population in all CTM District General Hospitals and sister hospitals. The Urology Service is undergoing an exciting service model change with the proposed plan of an on-call rota being centralised at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and using our strengths at other District General Hospitals sites to build a sustainable service. The service is going through a transformation change and it is an exciting time to be part of the service. The Consultant post will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital (RGH) for On call and inpatient care with other clinical sessions, admin and secretarial support based in the Princess of Wales Hospital (PoW) but post holder will be expected to work at all of CTM sites.  All elective cases in POW are currently daycase only, with no overnight stay and there are no Urology in patients at PoW.  There is a full clinical team based at RGH with training and non training middle grades, a core trainee and Foundation year 1 doctors. An ACP does a daily ward round in PoW which will be supported by consultants doing sessions at PoW and who will be job planned for ward rounds. All emergency paediatric patients are assessed by the paediatric team and escalated to the general surgical team Interview date July 16th 2026 ### Main duties of the job - Provide clinical expertise and leadership to a defined outpatient and inpatient teams where appropriate - Provide specialist assessment and clinical management of patients with Ophthalmology problems - Provide medical liaison and advice regarding patients to local Specialist Doctors and GPs as necessary. - Provide supervision for the speciality doctor and core trainee, and to a Specialty Training Registrar if the post holder is approved as an Educational Super-visor and if an ST is allocated to the team. - Liaise effectively with members of the team, other services within the Health Board, general practitioners and other agencies. - Contribute to the management of the service by attendance at appropriate committees and meetings, by involvement in audit and by taking on specific management roles which may, from time to time, be agreed. - Play an active role in the education and training of medical, nursing and other staff. - Maintain their professional knowledge base and competency by involvement in continuing professional development (CPD) and to take part in the Wales Revalidation Process which includes annual appraisals for the purposes of revalidation. - Arrange cross cover with colleagues as appropriate as per job plan.
