This post is for 5 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to provide specialist urological surgical oncology services at The Christie Hospital. This is primarily to further develop the world class prostate cancer service. The successful candidate will specialise in prostate cancer management, providing specialist expertise to the Greater Manchester catchment area. The right candidate will need to bring additional expertise to complement the current Team members. An interest or experience in minimally invasive and innovative technologies will be a necessity. Alongside this a proven track record in research will be important.

### Main duties of the job

Working in a 5 PA Innovation in Prostate Cancer role at The Christie is more than filling a clinical post. It is an opportunity to join a world-leading organisation at the forefront of innovation, research and improving patient outcomes.

Prostate cancer management is evolving rapidly. Advances in imaging, genomics, artificial intelligence, radiotherapy, systemic therapies and personalised medicine are creating new opportunities to transform patient care. This post offers the chance to help translate emerging clinical science and technological developments into meaningful benefits for patients.

The successful candidate will work closely with clinicians, scientists, researchers, engineers, industry partners, data specialists and patients. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines will be essential.

This role is ideal for someone with academic ambition who wishes to develop research ideas, contribute to clinical trials and support work that influences future practice. The successful candidate will be able to think beyond individual clinics and consider how innovation can improve outcomes for patients nationally and internationally.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The medical establishment provides the following staff within the urology department:

- Ten Consultant urologists (2 on SLA contracts with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust from Northern Care Alliance and Manchester NHS Foundation Trust)
- Seven Uro-Oncology specialist nurses and one ANP
- Five Middle grades (2 Specialist trainees, 3 Clinical/Research Fellows plus visiting International Fellows)
- Five Secretaries

The appointee will be based at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Withington, Manchester, although he/she may be required to provide an outreach clinic at other partner sites within the Greater Manchester area. consultant will also provide senior input to the management of patients with prostate cancer. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) The Trust supports the requirements for CPD as laid down by the GMC and royal colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Job Planning The job plan outlines the requirements of the post and may be altered by joint agreement with the Divisional Clinical Director and Service Manager and in response to service needs. Job Plans are prospectively agreed subject to an annual individual job plan review (May – September). It is expected that the initial Job Plan discussion will take place within the first six months of employment at the Trust and then be aligned to the Trusts annual Job Planning review cycle.

The annual review will examine all aspects of the job plan (including any educational and supervision components) and will also include an assessment of professional development with defined goals for the future. The consultant job plan will include a combination of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) delivered across the 7‑day week.

Weekend working will consist of programmed clinical activities that are job‑planned, scheduled in advance, and reviewed annually through the job planning process.

The pattern and timing of weekday and weekend programmed activities will be agreed on appointment and subsequently reviewed through the annual job planning cycle, taking account of service needs and consultant preferences.

Essential Training/Mandatory Training To ensure you maintain safe practice and understand Trust requirements, you must ensure your essential/mandatory training modules are maintained at all times using allocated core SPA time to complete them.

Job Plan Timetable The timetable below is indicative and will be confirmed on commencement in post.

It is the requirement of the Trust that all new consultant colleagues must have 0.25 SPAs within their job plan to support Trust appraisal and supervision requirements. This can either be as appraiser or a supervisor for medical staff or Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP).

On call Commitments This role does require participation in the on-call rota, currently on a 1:7 non-resident basis though this is dependent on unit needs

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Experience in mentoring and training urology trainees,
- Attendance of educational course(s)

### Training

**Essential**

- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in General Surgery and inclusion on the GMC’s specialist register

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience in minimally invasive prostate treatments
- Experience in management of prostate and core urology
- Ability to take on full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

### Qualifications

- MRC(R/P/S/Psych) or equivalent qualification
- FRCS (Urol) or Equivalent recognized qualification
- PhD
- GMC registration with a license to practice
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
