### Main duties of the job

This is a new permanent post to support the expanding thoracic surgical service, a tertiary unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Extensive experience in advanced minimal invasive technique is essential. The thoracic surgeons work in a shared job plan and with the new colleague it will be  a 1 in 7 rota for the on calls. You and other consultant colleagues will be expected to cover each other's absences on annual or study leaves. You will be required to participate in medical audit and medical education as well as consultant appraisal for revalidation.

- Full participation in the thoracic surgery service and provision of expertise and support to other specialists as required.  2.    Operating lists (VATS expertise is essential) 3.    MDT meetings 4.    Outpatient clinics (including peripheral virtual clinics) 5.    Ward rounds

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems

- Higher research degree (e.g MD/PhD)
