North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Consultant Stroke Physician to join our expanding Stroke Service.

Applications are invited for a Fixed-Term Consultant Stroke Physician post within the Stroke Services at North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH). The service sits within the Specialist Medicine Division at NMUH, recently joined as part of the Royal Free London Group.

This exciting opportunity is initially offered as a 6-month locum appointment comprising 10 Programmed Activities (8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA), with potential for substantive appointment. The post has been created to support the continued development and delivery of high-quality and acute stroke services, including inpatient stroke care, TIA pathways, and rapid-access stroke assessment clinics.

### Main duties of the job

- Deliver day-to-day clinical care and leadership in stroke outpatient clinics
- Efficient completion of virtual clinics to ensure diagnostic outcomes are communicated to patients and referrers in a timely manner
- Vetting referrals and responding to Advice and Guidance requests received from General Practice
- Show flexibility and undertake different appropriate clinical tasks at the request of the clinical leads, as the need arises.
- Complete inpatient reviews as part of a regular rota
- Effective clinical management of patients referred into the stroke service.
- Clear verbal and written communication with patients regarding their care and clinical outcomes
- Clear and timely responses as appropriate to patient complaints or enquiries which require clinical input
- Clinical review and/or treatment advice for inpatients referred to the stroke service
- Engender a Patient First culture across the organisation ensuring high standards of patient care
- To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of care across primary and secondary sectors

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary stroke team and contribute to the provision of timely specialist review and management of patients presenting with cerebrovascular disease. Duties will include supporting acute stroke pathways, inpatient stroke care, and ambulatory stroke services across the Trust.

Applicants should have broad experience in Stroke Medicine and General Internal Medicine, together with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, evidence-based stroke care. Experience in thrombolysis decision-making and thrombectomy

referral pathways would be desirable, depending on experience (There is potential to join Royal London Hospital HASU on call rota if candidate wishes to join)

The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering high-quality stroke care across the Trust and will contribute to the ongoing development of our stroke services.

The post-holder will provide consultant leadership for:

- A 29-bedded Acute Stroke Unit
- Daily consultant-led TIA assessment service
- Stroke outpatient follow-up clinics
- Multidisciplinary stroke care pathways
- Teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff
- Clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities

### Applicant requirements

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

- - Full GMC registration with licence to practice CCST/CCT or equivalent in stroke medicine and GIM and on the specialist register, or within 6 months of CCT date at the time of interview, or evidence of working towards specialist registration via CESR.
