### Job overview

We are looking for a committed individual with a specialist interest in nuclear medicine to help lead and develop the nuclear medicine department together with our incumbent nuclear medicine physician. The post holder must cover a full range of nuclear medicine imaging and have an ARSAC licence or be in a position to apply for an ARSAC licence on being appointed to the consultant post.

### Main duties of the job

This is a replacement post covering both adult and paediatric cases including subspeciality oncology nuclear medicine and cardiac scans. There are plans to instal a new digital PETCT scanner by Alliance on the BRI site in the next 12-18 months which will cover both paediatric and adult PETCT from Bristol and surrounding region.

A further subspecialty interest in oncology, whole body MRI or gyne imaging would be welcomed but not essential.

### Research

**Essential**

- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in research

**Desirable**

- Additional academic experience and qualifications e.g. PhD
- Evidence of publication of peer reviewed academic papers

### Experience

**Essential**

- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in radiology
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

**Desirable**

- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

### Teaching and Training

**Essential**

- Experience of teaching medical students and AHP’s
- Experience of supervising trainees.
- Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team

**Desirable**

- Formal teaching/ education qualification.
- Educational Supervisor training completed

### Management & Leadership

**Essential**

- Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it
- Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service
- Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant
- Ability to practice independently as a consultant
- Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership
- Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks

**Desirable**

- Evidence of management/leadership experience and/or qualifications and courses

### Qualifications & Training

**Essential**

- Fully registered with GMC
- Certification of completion of specialist training (CCT) (or equivalent, OR Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the point of interview
- Candidates can be within 6 months of gaining CCT at the date of interview. Please note this does not apply to CESR applications
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (or equivalent)
- Must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register to start Consultant appointment

**Desirable**

- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

### Clinical Governance and Audit

**Essential**

- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Positive approach to evidence based practice
- Evidence of recent and regular engagement with icontinuing professional development (CPD) scheme

### Clinical Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
