### Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Consultant Radiologist with expertise primarily in Head & Neck imaging, but other subspecialist interests can also be accommodated after discussion. The role will also include in-patient body CT reporting sessions and participation in the on-call rota. The post will be based at Chorley and Preston Hospital sites as well as sessions at the Community Diagnostic centre depending on subspecialty interest.

Applicants are invited to apply for the post in a highly diverse, motivated and thriving Radiology Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust which along with significant investment in our Community Diagnostic centre resulted in us expanding our Consultant Radiologist numbers to support additional work.

The successful candidate will support general radiology, assist in the smooth running of the Directorate and work with colleagues in the provision of an effective and efficient service.

The post will involve 10-programmed activities of imaging support (8 DPAs plus 1.5 SPAs and 0.5 for on-call).

The candidate should have completed their radiology training (be within 6 months of CCT or have obtained CESR) and should have sufficient skills to be able to independently report MRI, CT, and US examinations within their areas of subspeciality expertise.

The successful candidate must be resident within 30 minutes travel time to site.

### Main duties of the job

Duties will include all those duties normally expected of a radiologist in a similar sized Radiology department in the United Kingdom.  The majority of the appointee’s time will be spent on clinical duties.

In addition, the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and on-going audit programmes within the directorate as well as a full range of management duties commensurate with this role.

Specific duties will vary according to subspecialty, in general duties will include: -

- Management of the department to maintain efficient and timely patient flow with specific reference to both local and national targets.
- Assist consultant staff in maintaining staffing levels including covering short term sickness.
- Close liaison with nursing, medical and radiographic staff to ensure patient care is maintained and all trust policies and procedures are adhered to.
- The appointee will be required to take an active role in the teaching of junior doctors and be involved in the training of all staff, and to take an active role in audit.
- Other duties which may be allocated by senior staff to ensure the proper care of patients and management of the departments.
- Support, teaching and experience will be provided for career development as appropriate.

### Health

**Essential**

- Meets professional health requirements in line with GMC Standards/ Good Medical Practice

- Works well within a multidisciplinary environment

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice in UK
- MBBS or equivalent
- FRCR or equivalent
- CCST in Radiology or eligible registration equivalents
- CCT held or due within 6 months
- PLAB or equivalent standards

**Desirable**

- Higher degree / PHD / Masters
- Membership of Specialist Radiological Societies

### Experience and Skills

**Essential**

- Wide experience in Head & Neck radiology
- The ability to work / report independently
- Evidence of commitment to audit and improving clinical practice and service development
- Understanding current NHS management systems including clinical Governance and Risk management
- Evidence of participation in and commitment to teaching.
- The ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students

**Desirable**

- Additional Sub-specialty Experience
- Proven ability to lead radiology discussion within sub-specialty MDTs
- Attendance at appropriate professional meetings and courses
