### Job overview

The appointee will provide Consultant leadership and psychiatric input into the acute inpatient unit at the Cavell centre. They will work with the multidisciplinary team and establish good liaison and links with the community teams.

The inpatient consultants across the Fulbourn Adult Mental health wards work closely together, providing cross cover for leave and SPA time but also offering support and clinical input. The ward has a full-time middle grade post to support and there is robust junior doctor cover in the form of speciality doctors/higher trainees and core psychiatric trainees. In addition, all inpatient teams are supported by FY trainees. Therefore, supervision of Resident doctors and training is a key part of the role.

The post will involve close working relationship with modern matron, nurse specialists and team managers. There will be opportunities to take on management responsibilities both internally within the trust as well as externally with the Royal College. Mentoring will also be provided to help the new consultant settle in.

The consultant will Work in accordance with the New Ways of Working initiative for Consultants, attend regular team meetings such as MDT meetings and formulation meetings to discuss clinical issues with team members, care coordinators, inpatient doctors and other statutory agencies as required for the care of community patients.

Consultant Psychiatrists are a valuable and finite resource within our clinical services and whilst the primary responsibility for every consultant is the delivery of a high-quality clinical service all consultants will be expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the service and work with their non-medical senior leaders to steer the development of their service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.

Clinical leadership, innovation and service performance are key components to all our consultant positions. We will provide the necessary training and development opportunities for all Consultants joining the Trust to ensure they are able to deliver these components of their role.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Be an active participant and leader of the team, contributing to and developing the operational and clinical function of the service (with a focus on the management and treatment of complex, high-risk patients) 2.    Ensure clinical audit of the service and implementation of appropriate assessment tools and outcome measures as an integrated part of the service and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.  3.    Participate and engage with service development and wider Trust development initiatives. 4.    Provide evidence-based interventions for patients under their care, and support management of the service according to Trust policies and NICE standards. 5.    Liaise promptly with patients, carers, other psychiatry colleagues, general practitioners, and voluntary and statutory organisations to ensure high quality well-co-ordinated care.  6.    Complete administrative tasks associated with the care of patients in a timely manner. This will include recording clinical activity accurately, comprehensively, and promptly. It also includes ensuring that relevant KPIs, clustering and CQUIN requirements are fulfilled within their service.  7.    The post holder will share responsibility for and will actively participate in the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with consultant colleagues in the Trust, and will also contribute to teaching, supervision, and training of staff of other disciplines.  8.    The post holder will provide clinical supervision to junior doctors as necessary. 9.    Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Approved Clinician/ Mental health Act Section 12 (2) approval and to abide by professional codes of conduct. 10.    Comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the clinical director and other managers in preparing plans for services. 11.    Offer supervision to other members, both medical and non-medical.  12.    Ability to travel between Trust sites, patient contacts and community clinical work where required.
