This is a 5 PA Consultant Psychiatrist post within the Forest of Dean Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT), working as part of an established multidisciplinary team.

The post provides specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and ongoing management for adults with learning disabilities within the Forest of Dean locality, including the assessment and management of mental health, behavioural and epilepsy-related presentations.

The consultant will have responsibility for a defined proportion of the team caseload, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, primary care and other partner agencies to provide high-quality, person-centred care.

The caseload will be shared between the two consultant posts, with arrangements for allocation of patients agreed within the team.

The post offers an opportunity to work within a well-established CLDT with a defined clinical workload and protected SPA time.

This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time, 20 hours per week.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide consultant psychiatric leadership and clinical expertise to the CLDT, including assessment and formulation, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication review and management, risk assessment and management, and clinical review of people with complex mental health and/or behavioural presentations.

The post holder will contribute to the assessment and management of epilepsy where relevant, multidisciplinary assessment and care planning, and provide advice and support to colleagues and partner agencies.

The role will involve working collaboratively with patients, families and carers, as well as contributing to clinical leadership, supervision, teaching and service development as appropriate within the allocated SPA time.

The post holder will also contribute to the education, training and supervision of resident doctors, supporting the service's ongoing role in postgraduate medical education.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will have access to administrative and secretarial support reflecting the current established provision for the 10 PA consultant post within the Community Learning Disability Team. This support is available across the consultant workload on a flexible basis to support clinical activity. The post holder will be based with the Community Learning Disability Team at Colliers Court, Cinderford.

You will provide senior medical advice, support, consultancy and clinical leadership to the Forest of Dean Community Learning Disability Team.

The service specification and operational policy for this team are available upon request and important features are summarised below.

The population of the locality is 110 000, served by 1 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist in LD. The team caseload is around 250 , with a consultant caseload of around 140, for which the consultant is the only clinician involved of around 50 and with an average of 25-30 new referrals per year.

The expectation is that the Consultant will offer training to both Core Trainees and to Specialty Trainees. Core Trainees rotate through Learning Disability service, and one Core Trainee can be attached to the Forest of Dean Team every 6 months. All consultants are expected to offer training opportunities to the trainees.
