South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Primary mental health care teams in Neighbourhood N2 within the London Borough of Lewisham. This is being advertised as a fixed term post.

If you are looking for an exciting clinical role, within established primary care mental health teams, with opportunities to work closely with Primary care partners and lead on further service development and incorporating quality improvement methodology to evaluate changes, then this is the ideal post for you.

Number of programmed activities: 6 (4.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA)

The posts has become available as the substantive consultant has taken a sabbatical and will be returning to the post.

The team is currently divided between:

Speedwell Mental Health Centre, 62 Speedwell Street, London, SE8 4AT

Southbrook Road, 1 Southbrook Road, London, SE12 8LH

The two team bases are about 2 miles apart and can be reached by car and a range of public transport options.

### Main duties of the job

To provide enthusiastic, and flexible, joint clinical leadership and consultant input into the team, alongside the Clinical Service Lead

- To provide consultant input into the Primary Care Mental Health Team, using your expertise to provide advice, liaising closely with GPs and other stakeholders, and providing assessment of complex presentations and creating appropriate management plans
- To offer expert risk assessment and management skills of patients newly referred to services
- To ensure excellence in the delivery of evidence-based treatments
- To act as a source of support, advice and information to current or prospective patients and their carers, referrers, team members and other professionals.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main duties of the consultant are to provide psychiatry consultant leadership to the Primary Care Mental Health Team, and to support the Clinical Service Lead.

Close liaison with primary care will be a key part of the role. You will need to work directly with GPs and will need to attend regular meetings with local practices to improve the primary / secondary care interface and enhance the ability of medical colleagues working in primary care (Lead consultant in neighbourhood to take on this role).

You will be expected to provide consultant input for the Primary Care Mental Health team for  two and a half days per week and the remainder of the week. Your clinical work will involve seeing new referrals, seeing follow up patients (around 50:50 ratio) and providing senior advice and guidance to the team.

To provide enthusiastic, and flexible, joint clinical leadership and consultant input into the team, alongside the Clinical Service Lead

- To provide consultant input into the Primary Care Mental Health Team, using your expertise to provide advice, liaising closely with GPs and other stakeholders, and providing assessment of complex presentations and creating appropriate management plans

## Person Specification

### Eligibility

**Essential**

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry OR within six months

**Desirable**

- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
- Approved clinician status and under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

**Desirable**

- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines). Experience in relevant specialties such as in patient, old age psychiatry, liaison psychiatry, home treatment or addictions
