- We are inviting applications for an exciting full-time (10PA), Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist post in the Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Diagnoses within National Specialist CAMHS at the Maudsley. SCAAND provides specialist assessments and evidence-based treatments for children and young people with diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental conditions, especially those with mental health needs and other co-occurring conditions. This will be a Fixed Term post for 12 months. The post would be of particular benefit for an applicant interested in developing their knowledge, experience, and skills in autism, before the post is advertised as a substantive SCAAND consultant psychiatrist post, likely to be full-time.
- This post would be suitable for a wide range of psychiatrists, especially those with a background in neurodevelopmental disorders and / or intellectual disability / special needs community CAMHS. In addition to extensive opportunities to develop clinical knowledge, experience and skills in child and adolescent autism, ADHD and ID, there are also excellent opportunities for quality improvement activities, research, teaching and training.

### Main duties of the job

- This post is to provide consultant input for the Service for Complex Autism and Associated Neurodevelopmental Diagnoses (SCAAND). Children and young people referred to the service may also have associated genetic conditions, sensory impairments, physical impairments or other additional needs. SCAAND includes a clinical pathway for Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). The successful applicant will work closely with the existing Consultant Child Psychiatrists and the other disciplines within SCAAND and may hold roles in other pathways. This locum post aim to cover for 12 months a vacant substantive consultant post until the permanent is advertised.
- The post-holder would be expected to play a key role in providing consultation and advice to colleagues within and outside the team, especially with complex cases; psychiatric and medical assessments of children and adolescents, prescribing and monitoring medication, and supporting the delivery of services in accordance with Trust Clinical Governance and NICE guidance policies. The post-holder may also be required to supervise psychiatric trainees.
- The successful applicant will be working 10 PAs.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Accountability: The appointee will be professionally responsible to The Associate Medical Director via the Joint Head of Service, Dr Paliokosta. The appointee will be managerially accountable to the Lead Clinicians Dr Sacha Guglani and Dr Kate Johnston, and the Service Manager for National & Specialist CAMHS, Donna Underwood, who work in partnership with the SCAAND Senior Clinicians to deliver this service.

- Along with other senior members of the SCAAND team, take responsibility for ensuring there is effective communication with referring and receiving teams both throughout the Trust and to other Trusts.
- Maintain good open relations with all clinical team members to provide consultation and discussion of cases around the management of psychiatric issues including consultation.
- Participate in care planning and treatment formulation, provide guidance on evidence-based treatment and their effectiveness.
- Join other team members in the assessment and treatment of complex cases.
- Be responsible for prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medication.
- Support delivery and innovation of the adapted interventions and specialist groups.
- Support all research and quality improvement studies taken by the service.
