This is a full time Consultant post in General & Adult Psychiatry in the community covering the area of Chelmsford West.

This post has been formed following the transformation of services whereby community mental health teams have been re-established and the teams are closely aligned to the primary care networks. This post is based at the C&E Centre in Chelmsford.

This post provides community services for patients referred to the secondary mental health services from GP surgeries in the Chelmsford west Area of 5 GP's -Chelmer Medical Partnership (formerly Melbourne House Surgery, Humber Road Surgery and Tennyson House Surgery) Dickens Place Surgery, The Writtle Surgery. The post holder will work with Chelmsford community Team. The team covers the Chelmsford area.

There are two other Consultants who work with the Chelmsford team. It is expected that the three Consultants will work together to provide clinical leadership to the team as well as promoting true multidisciplinary team working.

### Main duties of the job

The consultant will have responsibility for the clinical care of the patients who are deemed to require secondary mental health intervention and will be expected to work closely with the team manager to ensure the provision of an effective service.

The PCN teams are also being established and the consultant will be expected to provide input into the team to support them.

The post-holder is required to work independently and accountably as part of a team of clinicians offering Mental Health services. Working collaboratively with key partner organisations, service users, carers, clinicians and other practitioners within the multi-disciplinary team in delivering services; providing a 7 day a week, 24 hours a day service for 365 days a year.

You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide consultant input and Responsible clinician duties for community patients.
- Ensure excellence in the provision of mental health assessments and evidence based treatments to all referred patients to the service in line with Trust policies.
- Establish a reliable and accessible work schedule with the team and be readily available during work hours.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in community and inpatient settings concerning the timely care and transfer of patients as necessary.
- Ensure appropriate administration and documentation in relation to duties of the post, including recording clinical activities in the Trust electronic patient record system.
- Liaise with primary care services as appropriate about patients’ physical health, mental health and social care needs.
- Help co-ordinate further support and/or management between different services as service users’ needs may dictate.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

### TRANSPORT

**Essential**

- Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

### ELIGIBILITY

**Essential**

- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.

**Desirable**

- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

**Desirable**

- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- MRCPsych
- On the Specialist Register with qualifications General Adult.
- Postgraduate degree in psychiatry MRC Psych or equivalent.

### CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
