This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced and motivated child and young people service team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is now part of University Hospital Tees. The Department of Paediatrics at South Tees is a dynamic department working across two sites - Middlesbrough and Northallerton.

This is a substantive position for a Consultant Paediatrician, however applications from general paediatricians with a specialist interest in epilepsy are encouraged to apply.  Applications will also be considered from individuals with any other special interest, according to the needs of the department.

All Consultants work across both sites and a variety of opportunities are available for this.

### Main duties of the job

We are a large secondary care centre in the Tees Valley area providing acute, community and specialist care as well as planned services for children in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Northallerton. We provide a broad range of specialist treatments including cardiology, diabetes, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, asthma, paediatric endocrine, allergies, gastroenterology and the full range of community paediatric services. We have six commissioned level 2 HDU bed and we are part of the North East Paediatric Critical Care Network.

We have a large number of trainees in the department at all levels of training covering tier 1 and 2 rotas including foundation doctors, general practice training, military GP trainee and specialist trainees rotating across the Northern Deanery. The department is actively involved in the delivery of the undergraduate education programme for medical students from the universities of Newcastle and Hull.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- General paediatric experience in both secondary and tertiary care
- Experience of supervising junior medical staff
- Evidence of clinical skills to fulfill the general elements of this job

**Desirable**

- Experience in managing paediatric epilepsy or another special interest that will complement the needs of the department
- Experience in managing paediatric patients in MDT setting
- Experience in team working outside of work
- 6/12 Experience in PICU during training
- Teaching Experience

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Knowledge of and training in child protection
- Knowledge of legislation relating to child health
- Evidence of clinical audit
- Good leadership skills

**Desirable**

- Evidence of research or innovative service developments
- Formulation of guidelines
- Evidence of management and administration experience
- Teaching skills
- IT skills

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration
- MRCPCH or equivalent
- The applicant must produce evidence that he / she is either on the
- UK Specialist Register or within 6 months of specialist registration date, and is expected to achieve specialist registration
- APLS or EPLS provider

**Desirable**

- A higher qualification
- Management course for clinicians
- Relevant CCT or equivalent
