Based between the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Grampian Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Woodend Hospital, this post is offered on a whole time basis. The successful candidate will join an existing department of 29 NHS Surgeons. The successful candidate will work closely with two established tumour and reconstructive surgery colleagues, within a developed multidisciplinary team. The post will also include adult trauma on-call within a Major Trauma Centre setting. The Orthopaedic Department provides a comprehensive Trauma and Elective service for patients in Grampian region. In addition, it acts as a tertiary referral centre for the Highland, Shetland and Orkney regions. There is an active research and teaching programme. We are one of the busiest Trauma and Elective units in the United Kingdom. The Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland is based in Aberdeen. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register. Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
