### Job summary

We are seeking passionate individuals to fill two Consultant roles in the Liver Transplantation & Hepatobiliary Surgery Department at St Jamess University Hospital. The liver transplant programme in Leeds is well established and is the third-largest liver transplant unit in the country. Leeds is a national leader in living donor liver transplantation. Each year, the unit performs 120 to 130 adult and 20 paediatric liver transplants. The transplant and hepatobiliary unit in Leeds deliver more than 1000 major procedures each year.

### Main duties of the job

In relation to this post, the Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant surgery team consists of 8 full time consultants who deliver services across Yorkshire and the North-West region. The service currently delivers: Around 150 Adult & Paediatric Liver Transplantation with scope to do 175 transplants a year Around 175 Organ Retrievals Over 300 Liver Resections Active Live Donor Liver Transplant Program for Adult & Paediatric recipients within NHS The successful applicant should possess an FRCS (or equivalent) and must be included on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of the interview if currently participating in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. ### Job responsibilities

Applicants should possess established skills in liver transplantation, organ retrieval, NRP, machine perfusion, and general surgery. Experience in machine perfusion technologies and ANRP is highly desirable. This role includes an elective general surgery component involving the treatment of benign biliary disease and various aspects of general surgery. The successful candidate is also expected to provide coverage for the National Organ Retrieval Service. Leeds Teaching Hospitals currently offers organ retrieval coverage for 39 weeks annually. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as research interests, is considered advantageous.
