This post has a job plan based across sites Hinchingbrooke, Stamford and Peterborough Hospital and the successful applicant would be expected to provide leadership to deliver a comprehensive and integrated Medical Retina Ophthalmology service across the appropriate NWAFT sites.

The post will provide MR outpatient clinics and theatre sessions primarily, and the appointee would be expected to work as part of our large team. Other additional subspecialty skills which would help the service would be advantageous. Additional cataract operating sessions will be available depending on the candidates operating experience.

The appointee will be also responsible for contributing to and coordinating the training of medical staff, hospital based optometrists and orthoptic staff who work within NWAFT’s MR Service.

He/she is responsible for the day-to-day management of his/her clinics and must ensure that in/out-patient services are covered during his/her planned absences.

Participation in episodes of shared care requires the consultant to provide advice and support to clinicians in other services regarding patients who may have a combination of ocular problems.

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Commitment to ophthalmology education of undergraduate and postgraduates

**Desirable**

- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience

### Experience

**Essential**

- Clinical Fellowship experience or equivalent
- High degree of surgical (if operating) and clinical skills

**Desirable**

- Teaching at post and undergraduate levels

### Management

**Essential**

- Understanding of the management responsibilities of NHS consultants

**Desirable**

- Administrative or management roles during training of primary or secondary care teams. Recognised qualification/certificate course in management

### Personal Qualities

- Ability to work independently

- CCT or equivalent in Ophthalmology and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of AAC.
