### Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as a substantive Consultant Medical Oncologist covering Neuroendocrine and Melanoma cancers.

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest and busiest Trusts in London with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence and world-class care. In January 2025, the Royal Free London and North Middlesex University Hospitals Trusts merged, and we now deliver care to over 2 million people a year through our four main health units.  There are chemotherapy infusion suites to treat cancer patients at The Royal Free, Finchley Memorial, North Middlesex and Chase Farm health units whilst radiotherapy is delivered at the Royal Free and North Middlesex health units.

The Trust is a tertiary centre for neuroendocrine and melanoma with a renowned national and international reputation.

The post-holder will work alongside medical and clinical oncology colleagues at the Royal Free, units and will be essential for service provision and continued development of the trials portfolio.

The successful candidate should have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team; have a wide experience in Medical Oncology but in particular in neuroendocrine and melanoma cancer management.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Member of a medical defence union
- Highest ethical and professional standards in research, education and clinical practice

**Desirable**

- Knowledge and understanding of the principles of resource and budgetary management within the NHS

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience and commitment to MDT working
- Wide experience in oncology
- Experience of melanoma, NET and immunotherapy
- Experience and an interest in UG and PG teaching
- Clinical audit experience
- Clinical trials experience
- Experience of Acute Oncology
- Proven clinical ability in Medical Oncology
- The ability to work as a member of a collaborative group
- The authority, decision-making skills needed to lead a multidisciplinary team in a complex environment
- The ability to promote teamwork and motivate colleagues
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload to delegate responsibly as appropriate and to supervise doctors in training and other staff
- Willingness to be personally accountable for actions
- Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
- Leadership skills and the ability to take forward service developments
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written. Good command of written and spoken English
- Ability to relate to patients from a wide range of backgrounds and to empathise with their concerns and needs
- Willingness and skills to recognise and challenge unacceptable behaviour and if necessary, escalate
- Proven ability to translate research activities into a clinical and organisational context
- Knowledge of the Clinical Governance Framework of the NHS (including research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management of structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters
- Awareness and understanding of health, safety, and security issues for self and others

- Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research in the field, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals

### Education and Professional Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Member of RCP
- Accreditation by the RCP or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at time of interview
- Eligible for GMC registration and entry onto the GMC Specialist Register in the area of Medical Oncology

**Desirable**

- Post graduate medical degree e.g. MD/PhD
