## Job Content

### Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will be fellowship trained and confident in managing the full spectrum of elective orthopaedics and trauma services. A subspecialty interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery is essential, ideally with experience in the management of diabetic foot.

This is a full-time substantive post with participation in the Consultant on-call rota. The post is available to commence as soon as possible.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality patient care and developing innovative services across the specialty.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continued development of orthopaedic services within a progressive and forward-thinking department.

### Main duties of the job

We expect the successful applicant to support the delivery and ongoing development of Orthopaedic services across Lancashire, working collaboratively within the wider regional network.

The role will include:

- Undertaking elective and fracture outpatient clinics
- Participation in elective and trauma operating sessions
- Ward round duties and associated administrative responsibilities

The on-call commitment is 1:8, consisting of one week of trauma on-call shared with a colleague on an alternating day basis. Outside of the on-call week, the timetable will predominantly comprise elective activity together with occasional trauma operating.

This post is subject to the Trust’s Terms and Conditions of Service.

The post holder will be expected to work across both Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital sites.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We provide a comprehensive general orthopaedic and acute trauma service to the population of East Lancashire. The trauma service is Consultant led, with two all-day trauma operating lists during the week and one all-day trauma list at weekends. The on-call commitment is a 1:8 rota, consisting of alternating day cover shared with a Consultant colleague.

All Consultants contribute to the general orthopaedic service while also maintaining a recognised subspecialty interest. The department has strong links with teaching units across the North West region, supporting education, research and service development.

Operative facilities are provided across eight laminar flow theatres within the Trust, including five theatres at Burnley General Teaching Hospital and three at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The Trust maintains a comprehensive and regularly updated range of trauma and elective orthopaedic instrumentation.

Outpatient clinics are undertaken at both Burnley General Teaching Hospital and Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, with peripheral orthopaedic clinics also provided at Rossendale, Pendle, Clitheroe and Accrington.

The service is supported by a full complement of radiology and pathology services, including MRI facilities available on both main hospital sites.

The post holder will be expected to play an active role in the education, training and supervision of Resident Doctors working within the department. This will include regular educational support, appraisal, career advice and, where appropriate, acting as a named Educational Supervisor. The successful candidate will also contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate medical students attached to the department.

The Trust actively supports continued professional development, and the post holder will be expected to maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge through attendance at relevant conferences, study days and training courses.
