An opportunity has arisen to apply for a full-time Consultant in Restorative Dentistry post at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC). The post holder will be joining an organisation that values innovative working with supportive colleagues to improve the oral healthcare offer to the population of the region. Aside from clinical service provision, opportunities exist for postgraduate teaching, Quality Improvement activity, and participation in research. The service has close links with other acute medical, dental and surgical specialities in the North East and North Cumbria.

### Main duties of the job

The primary function of the Consultant in Restorative Dentistry is to provide consultant led expertise on referral to patients from general dental practice colleagues and the community dental service. Shared care working is encouraged to provide appropriate care locally for the population of North Cumbria.

The Consultant in Restorative Dentistry will also work alongside Orthodontic and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical (OMFS) teams for treatment of patients requiring joint orthodontic and restorative management, and Head and Neck Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) clinics

The Restorative Dental Service is delivered from the Carlisle Dental Education Centre on the Cumberland Infirmary site in Carlisle, Cumbria and is supported by a dental therapist/hygienist team, and an in-house dental laboratory for non-complex work.

Key working relationships for this post would be the:

- Clinical Director and local Clinical Lead of the Special Care and Community Dental Service (SCCDS)
- Head and Neck directorate colleagues in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) NHS Foundation Trust
- Head and Neck Cancer MDT.
- Hygienist and dental therapist support within NCIC
- Community dentists, therapists and dental nurses within North Cumbria.
- Colleagues within Restorative Dentistry in North East and North Cumbria (NENC) ICB region

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.

**Desirable**

- Teaching of non-medical health professionals
- Postgraduate qualification in dental education

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of current, and significant experience in Restorative Dentistry including treatment of head and neck cancer patients, hypodontia and cleft patients, and advanced restorative procedures.
- Evidence of a substantial commitment to the speciality
- Ability to provide high quality specialist care for patients seen and treated and an expert clinical opinion
- Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a secondary centre.
- High level of experience in undertaking prosthodontic rehabilitation of Head and Neck cancer patients
- Experience in attending MDTS for Head and Neck cancer and pre-radiotherapy assessments

**Desirable**

- Experience of working at consultant level
- Significant and current experience of working with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams.
- Trained Educational or Clinical Supervisor

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Primary dental qualification
- Full current registration with the GDC
- Entry on GDC specialist register in Restorative Dentistry or within 6 months of expected CCST
- Successful completion of a SAC approved minimum five year training programme in Restorative Dentistry or within six months of completion or equivalent.
- Intercollegiate speciality fellowship examination or equivalent.
- An appropriate postgraduate qualification in Restorative Dentistry or equivalent

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification
- Management/leadership course/certification
