### Consultant in Respiratory and General MedicineFull time (10PA, including up to 2 SPA) or Part time                                   Salary Scale - £111,430 - £148,064 per annum (pro rata if part time)

The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Forth Valley Royal Hospital is looking to expand our team of experienced consultants. Since 2023 we have been re-establishing a Respiratory Medicine service for the population of the Forth Valley that is modern, patient-focused and sustainable. Whilst developing existing services we have started new ones including a Virtual ward and cardiopulmonary exercise testing and will soon start a local sleep service. To this end we would welcome interest from an individual with experience in modernising existing patient pathways and developing new services, alongside an excellent team of allied health professionals. The successful candidate will be part of the acute general medical rota, provide in-reach to acute medicine for specialty cases and be supported in fostering a sub-speciality interest and growing as a consultant.

Our hospital is situated in the heart of Scotland, nestled against the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

- Ability to work flexibly according to the needs of the service and contribute to team and skills development.

- Participation in clinical audit to improve clinical care.
- Participation in departmental teaching

**Desirable**

- Formal research training; demonstrated ability to design a research or audit project

- Understanding of management issues including clinical governance, service planning and willingness to contribute to the activity of the NHS in Forth Valley.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Willing to work unsupervised, make decisions and manage time effectively
- Good written and oral communication skills
- High level of competence in the clinical aspects of Respiratory Medicine
- Evidence of an ability to develop new skills and train colleagues as appropriate
- Good IT and administrative skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal, leadership skills and negotiating skills

**Desirable**

- Demonstrated ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing; thesis
- Willingness to contribute to the corporate activity of the department, Directorate and NHS Forth Valley.

### Qualifications and Experience

**Essential**

- MRCP (UK), or equivalent
- Full GMC registration, with licence to practise
- Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT)
- Applicants who are within 6 months of achieving CCT at the date of interview are eligible to apply.
- Applicants applying under the Portfolio pathway must be entered onto the GMC Specialist Register at time of application.
- At least 2 years General Professional Training in General Medicine
- At least 12 months of Higher Specialist Training in General Medicine

**Desirable**

- Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or PhD or other relevant diplomas
- Subspecialty competence in the management of major general respiratory disease (airways/ lung cancer/ ILD/ infection/pleural).
- Clinical experience in Sleep Medicine
