Newham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for a full time Respiratory Consultant to join our dynamic Respiratory team.

This post is a permanent post with a subspecialty focus on lung cancer and intervention (pleural). The appointee will work alongside 5 established respiratory consultants in a brand new, purpose-built respiratory unit.

The successful candidate will contribute to inpatient general respiratory care, and a 1 in 18 acute unselected medical rota. The respiratory rota is generously filled with trainees and innovative fellow roles (intervention and quality improvement fellowships). The Respiratory team have been highlighted for their high rates of satisfaction across the annual staff survey 2023.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other professional groups. They will support audit, clinical governance and improvement work happening across the department.

### Main duties of the job

To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient acute and specialist Respiratory Medicine service at Barts Health NHS Trust.

To deliver excellence in care for patients admitted on acute unselected medical take.

To undertake a dedicated respiratory procedures list.

To work closely with colleagues in both primary and secondary care, to provide seamless lung cancer care for patients

To provide evidence-based care for all inpatients and outpatients.

To have regard at all times for the clinical and quality standards.

To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff.

To participate fully in the management of the Department and to liaise closely with the General Manager and the Clinical Lead.

To promote the principles of good Governance, participating in and supporting delivery of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.

To take an active role in teaching and training in the department and Trust at both undergraduate and postgraduate level

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

Leadership, development and organisation of the services in his/her charge in line with the Trusts’ business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director of Respiratory Medicine, the General Manager and the Managing Director and the North East London Integrated Care Board.

Development of his/her own interests and specialisms within the specialty and including active participation in research programmes.

Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training including the approval and monitoring of on calls rotas and locum appointments.

## Person Specification

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- CCT in Respiratory Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine, G(I)M, (or within 6 months of eligibility at the time of interview) or be on the Specialist Register
- GMC registration
- MBBS or equivalent MRCP or equivalent

**Desirable**

- MD or PhD

### Relevant Experience

- Accreditation in Pleural Ultrasound
- Evidence of broad respiratory and general medicine training
- Experience in lung cancer subspeciality clinics and MDT delivery
- Experience in bronchoscopy including EBUS

- Computer skills & IT literacy
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit, quality improvement and teaching

**Desirable**

- Peer reviewed publications
- Previous experience of research and clinical trials
