An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our specialist palliative care services within Central Lancashire.

This is a substantive (0.8WTE) consultant post within the hospital specialist palliative care service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder would be part of a dynamic team that includes 6 consultants delivering specialist palliative care across Central Lancashire within hospital, community and hospice settings. The post includes participation in a 1:6 on call rota providing consultant advice (2nd on call) to specialist palliative care services based at St Catherine’s Hospice and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

- Provide specialist palliative medical advice and clinical input within the Trust.

- Provide clinical support to the Palliative Care CNS team through MDT meeting input, telephone advice and joint reviews within inpatient clinical settings.

- Provide Specialist Palliative Care representation at cancer site/ non-cancer disease specific multidisciplinary meetings.

- Complete administration duties associated with this post’s provision of Specialist Palliative Care.

- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Director for Palliative Care, Lead Nurse in Palliative and End of life Care, Hospice Medical Director, existing consultants, and Hospice leadership teams to provide clinical, operational and strategic leadership.

- Provide leadership around clinical audit and quality improvement and other governance activities.

- Participate in the bi-monthly Specialist Palliative Care Directorate business meetings.

- Provide supervision and clinical support for trainees in specialist palliative medicine and other medical staff in the palliative care team.

- Support the delivery of multi-professional education and training alongside the End-of-Life care educator at LTHTR.

- Provide cross cover for consultant colleagues where necessary across the hospital, community and hospice services.

- Support the delivery of palliative care services out of hours by participating in a 1 in 6 non-residential on call rota.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience and training in Specialist Palliative Care in hospital, hospice and community.
- Proven ability in managing complex holistic palliative care in both malignant and non-malignant conditions
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients at Consultant level
- Awareness of current speciality specific clinical evidence, developments and guidelines
- Experience in supervising junior medical colleagues

**Desirable**

- Broad experience of medicine across a variety of settings including acute medicine
- Involvement in research projects relating to the specialist area
- Experience of leading and developing education and training

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC Registration with license to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCP UK or equivalent
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine via one of the following: A. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) B. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) C. European Community Rights

**Desirable**

- Higher Medical Degree (MA, MD, MSc, PhD)
