The role involves delivering expert clinical care, providing specialist advice to healthcare professionals, participating in the on-call rota, and supporting the development of innovative services that enable patients to receive care closer to home. The post holder will contribute to teaching and supervision of medical students, trainees and healthcare professionals, undertake audit, research and quality improvement activities, and play an active role in service development, clinical governance and leadership to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care across the county ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities To view a detailed job description and person specification including the main responsibilities of this role please see supporting documents. ## Person Specification ### Skills **Essential** - Previous experience in taking a leadership role in several multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring high quality care and staff morale - Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work. - Ability to appraise own performance and have excellent written and oral communication skills **Desirable** - Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills. ### Teaching **Essential** - Understanding of the principles of teaching. - Commitment to and experience of undergraduate and postgraduate learning and multi-disciplinary teaching **Desirable** - DipEd Postgraduate teaching qualification or equivalent. - Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education or multi professional education. ### Knowledge **Essential** - Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a consultant. - Knowledge of risk management and specialist risk assessment for secure services - Understanding of policies and service systems for people with palliative care needs. - Ability to use IT, including e-mail and the internet. **Desirable** - Knowledge of recent changes in the NHS. ### Experience **Essential** - Experience in assessing and treating patients with palliative care needs in inpatient, out-patient and community settings. - Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD **Desirable** - Experience of working across different SPC settings, including charitable sector. ### Management **Essential** - Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS. **Desirable** - Evidence of management training/previous management experience. - Evidence of a management project. ### Qualifications **Essential** - CCT in Palliative Care - Recognised basic Medical Degree - MRCP membership - Inclusion (or eligibility for inclusion) on the Specialist Register or a Specialty Trainee within 6 months of gaining CCT - Satisfactory clearances from enhanced DBS disclosure and health checks. **Desirable** - Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications - Completion of Clinical and Educational Supervisor Training ### Resarch and Audit **Essential** - Ability to critically appraise published research. - Experience of carrying out audit/quality improvement projects. **Desirable** - Interest in research - Experience of involvement in a research project and publication. ### Aptitude and Personal qualitites **Essential** - Positive attitude to multidisciplinary working and leadership. - Ability to deal effectively with pressure - Positive approach to the job planning and appraisal process. - Flexible approach to working practice. - Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. **Desirable** - Evidence of Leadership Attributes. - Commitment to service development.
