The successful candidate will have a broad expertise in PRM, ideally with a special interest in Asthma. The candidate should have completed national grid specialist respiratory training or its equivalent and ideally have engaged in research and obtained or be engaged in achieving a higher degree. Outpatients and office space will be located at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Inpatient ward cover and on call is based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. (10PA) Candidates who would prefer a locum fixed term contract should please get in touch, and look out for a separate advert to apply. ### Main duties of the job This is a whole-time Consultant post in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine currently with outpatient clinics and office space at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Inpatient ward cover and on call is based at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. (10PA) This is a general post in paediatric respiratory medicine (PRM) with a focus on leading and developing the Asthma service. The successful candidate will have a broad expertise in PRM, ideally with a special interest in Asthma. The candidate should have completed national grid specialist respiratory training or its equivalent and ideally have engaged in research and obtained or be engaged in achieving a higher degree. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities To provide clinical services for paediatric respiratory patients in accordance with clinical and legal requirements and in keeping with the international role of the Trust. Clinical Responsibilities Attending consultant for the week, providing in-patient services to Sky Ward and respiratory patients on Mountain ward and Snow Leopard (long term ventilation and sleep unit). Acute second opinion requests will come from all other areas of the hospital including NICU and PICU. On call is a 1 in 7 or 8 acute week, with weekend ward rounds. General paediatric respiratory cases such as acute asthma cases or bronchiolitis admitted via Evelina A&E come under the care of the general paediatric teams. Asthma services are supported by a MDT including clinical nurse specialists, this post holder will be involved in the development and shape of the merged asthma services going forward. Outpatient clinics at Brompton – 2 general and asthma paediatric respiratory clinics. Some of these can be video clinics. The post will include close liaison with the lung function service on both RBH and Evelina sites. Expertise in managing CPET testing is desirable although training for this can occur within the post. The post-holder will be required to contribute fully to the administrative and management needs of the Paediatric Respiratory service and the similar needs more widely within the Trust. The post-holder should be able to perform flexible bronchoscopy, although support for development of this will be available. Teaching and Training There is a commitment to teaching undergraduate students from both Imperial College and GKT medical schools both during their paediatric attachments and in special study modules (SSMs). We also have a large commitment to postgraduate training. Professional Responsibilities To seek and maintain professional CPD and Trust mandatory training. To maintain current knowledge of paediatric respiratory medicine and to participate in a recognised programme of continuing medical education and professional development To set and maintain high professional standards. A strong commitment to clinical audit, quality improvement, evidence-based practice and to developing a research programme in line with the research strategy of the Paediatric Directorate and the Trust will be required of a successful applicant. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
