The neurology department will be appointing a Neurology Consultants due to the current post holder retiring over the next year therefore, applications are invited for consultant neurologist with a special interest in Movement Disorders or Epilepsy (other sub specialities will be considered).

The Movement Disorder (MD) service at UHCW NHS Trust is led by four consultants and has developed an excellent reputation for early uptake of new PD treatments, offering subcutaneous foslevodopa-fascarbidopa and other devise-aided treatments.

There are two hospital-based Parkinson’s nurse specialists based at UHCW with six community Parkinson’s nurse specialists covering Coventry and Warwickshire. The team also comprises a senior clinical fellow in Movement Disorders. From a research perspective, UHCW is a Tier 3 site for the Edmond J Safra Accelerating Clinical Trials in Parkinson’s Disease. A dedicated Parkinson’s research nurse has recently been appointed.

### Main duties of the job

As part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices and methodologies of UHCWi.

You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others.  Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Epilepsy service is run by three consultants, one GP with special interest and currently two epilepsy clinical nurse specialists (3rd post in business case stage); we have access to all usual epilepsy investigations including 3-T MRI, one inpatient video telemetry bed, home ambulatory video telemetry as well as all usual subspecialty clinics such as for adolescent transition, pregnancy monitoring, buccal midazolam training and 1st seizures.

Within the existing team there is a major interest in the fields of Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease/Movement Disorders, Headache, MND and MS/neuroinflammation including neurosarcoidosis.

The department also provides acute neurology services within the Trust and the successful candidate will take part in a weekly daytime rota (1 in 7) and the out of hours on-call rota (1 in 7).  The department are supported by a strong R&D team and welcomes applicants who are interested in research. Stroke care is provided by an established stroke team on a separate rota.

- - Understanding of the Clinical Government process
