Applications are invited for a Consultant post in Neurocritical Care to start after 1st August 2026. This post is based at the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital site. It will predominantly involve responsibility as a consultant in a prospective cover 1:9 rota for the 17 bedded neurosciences critical care unit, but will also help to establish an Echocardiography service within the existing Pre-Operative Assessment service in the West Wing. The appointment is on a whole-time basis.

The duties of the post-holder will be primarily occur in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the post-holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations in Oxford (The John Radcliffe Hospital, The Churchill Hospital and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre).  The job will predominantly involve responsibility as a consultant in a prospective cover 1:9 rota for the 17 bedded neurosciences critical care unit, but will also continue to develop a service as a perioperative consultant for the Neurosciences inpatient ward, as well as establishing an Echocardiography service within the existing Pre-Operative Assessment service within the West Wing.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- General training in Intensive Care Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
- Experience of perioperative care delivery
- Ability to supervise Resident Doctors

**Desirable**

- Experience of neuro-critical care
- Involvement in audit, research, publications, presentations

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Evidence of team leadership skills to fulfil the role of a consultant within a large, multi-site Teaching Hospital
- Organisational skills to be able to undertake effectively the role of a consultant within a large Teaching hospital and regional referral centre
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Good personal and interpersonal skills
- Flexible approach to problem solving
- Good spoken and written English
- Experience of routine clinical audit
- Understanding of TARN and ICNARC

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and clinical networks
- Management training and experience
- Highly Developed communication skills
- Experience of teaching medical, nursing undergraduates and postgraduates and members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Willingness to conduct and supervise audit as a consultant
- Ability to actively participate in regional audit systems

### Qualifications / Skills

**Essential**

- FRCA or MRCP or FICM
- Echocardiography fellowship or equivalent qualification; OR enrolled in achieving at time of interview

**Desirable**

- ATLS, ALS
- Membership of NACCS

### Professional qualfication

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- CCT in Anaesthetics or ICM (or equivalent for non-UK applicants; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
