An exciting opportunity has arisen to join this dynamic, innovative and friendly multi-disciplinary department which has a strong clinical reputation across the spectrum of complex diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism, as well as extensive experience in the arena of education and training, with current consultants holding International, National and local roles in medical education and Quality Improvement.

We welcome enthusiastic candidates to apply for this new post which will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant where you will join the existing team of 4.2 consultant Diabetologists and Endocrinologists in addition to a wider multidisciplinary team.

### Main duties of the job

Key duties include:

Lead and develop the Weight Management Service, including:

- Oversight of clinical pathways for Tier 3 weight Management
- Collaboration with dietitians, psychologists, and physiotherapists
- Clinical input into patient assessments and treatment Planning
- Engagement in service improvement and audit activities

Contribute to high-demand inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine speciality activities alongside colleagues in the department

Provide senior clinical decision-making during on-call cover

Participate in annual job planning and appraisal. The post holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development for successful revalidation

Undertake statutory and mandatory training, as well as essential-to-role training as determined by the department and organisation

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive, current experience & training in Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Working knowledge / experience of the NHS

**Desirable**

- Previous experience as a locum or substantive consultant

### Personality and physical requirements

**Essential**

- Able to work in a multidisciplinary team and delegate effectively
- Able to perform clinical duties
- Able to travel to undertake duties of post, flexible and responsive to staff and service priorities

**Desirable**

- Demonstrate drive, achievement and innovation.

### Education/ Qualifications and training

**Essential**

- Full GMC registration and license to practise in UK
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) or Entry to the GMC Specialist Register via the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
- Possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification

**Desirable**

- An appropriate higher degree, (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
- SCE in Diabetes and Endocrinology

### Knowledge, personal skills and abilities

**Essential**

- Good organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Problem solving skills
- Proven ability to work under pressure
- Commitment to teamwork and pursuit of the corporate agenda of the employer
- Understanding of management priorities within the NHS Experience of and participation in clinical audit
- Proven clinical ability to a high standard
- Experience of developing and participating in teaching programmes for trainees

**Desirable**

- Understanding of budget management and leadership skills Ability to produce and implement guidelines / protocols based on evidence-based practice
- Publication(s) in professional journals
- Evidence of papers presented at national/ international meetings
- Sub–specialisation and special interests within Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism
- Proven leadership qualities in previous posts
