The department of diabetes and endocrinology is seeking to appoint a Consultant Physician to join a comprehensive, forward-thinking team in a full-time (10 PA) capacity. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

The department of diabetes and endocrinology provides inpatient and outpatient (including community services in Lambeth and Southwark) across all out hospital sites including GSTT and RBHH. This post will be based across the hospital and community sites, and includes specialist diabetes, endocrinology, obesity and GIM. This post will have key contributions to obesity medicine, specialist diabetes and endocrinology services at the Trust and support our delivery of community services and provision of services at RBHH.

### Main duties of the job

The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy’s & St Thomas’ sites, including RBHH and community sites and includes on-call commitments. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Leads/Director within 3 months of your start date. The post-holder will have a commitments to our continuously developing obesity services, transition and general endocrinology and specialist diabetes services, across the Trust sites. There is a commitment to GIM including inpatient medicine and the acute unselected medical take.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.

The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.

As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends. The successful appointee will be expected to work as required across all of the Trust sites.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

### Clinical skills

**Essential**

- Ability to design and shape diabetes and endocrine care provision.
- Ability to chair multi-disciplinary meetings

**Desirable**

- Good working knowledge of diabetes inpatient working across intermediate, secondary and tertiary care

### Audit Management

**Essential**

- Good track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of leadership and management relating to diabetes and endocrinology.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in designing and implementing quality improvement projects

### Clinical experience

**Essential**

- Experience of working in obesity, diabetes and endocrinology.
- Evidence of contribution to the development of clinical pathways and guidelines in diabetes and endocrinology.
- Evidence of a good understanding of clinical governance.
- Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
- Evidence of ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.

**Desirable**

- Clinical experience at Consultant level.
- Experience of working in tier 3 obesity services, and transition, young persons diabetes and endocrinology.
- Practical experience in the delivery of integrated diabetes care.

### Professional Qualifications

**Essential**

- Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise
- On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT
- MRCP(UK) by examination or equivalent

**Desirable**

- Higher degree, research MD or PhD, relevant to this post

### Research, Teaching Skill and experience

**Essential**

- A track record of research, publications/ understanding / knowledge of Research ethics
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff

**Desirable**

- Evidence of original research and publication relevant to role
- Established area of research interest
- GCP certificate within 2 years
