There is an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals. Interested applicants are strongly recommended to come and meet the team and to discuss with the specialty lead for Acute medicine and SDEC.

We are committed to contributing not just to the Acute Medical Department but MFT with a focus on ambulatory care, digital healthcare, education ( including simulation) and workforce wellbeing. Many of our consultant colleagues undertake regional and national educational, governance and leadership roles alongside delivering acute care.

The Acute Medical and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team includes 15 consultants with a breadth of specialty knowledge. We are supported by an excellent multidisciplinary team. This includes 3 Advanced care practitioners, one consultant nurse, 2 pharmacists, 3 physician associates, occupational and physiotherapists, discharge facilitators, locally employed senior and junior clinical fellows and rotating doctors in training.

We are keen to attract candidates interested in service development will support this in post.

This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The Job Description indicates the main duties of the post, which may be reviewed in the light of experience and developments within service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder.

This is a full time 10PA post. However, applications for less than full time work or job shares would also be welcomed. The successful applicants would join the medical on call rota. This currently includes 1 in 8 weekends and 1 in 24 weekdays and overnight

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

## Person Specification

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Interest in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff as well as other healthcare workers.

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification e.g. PG Cert in Med Ed

### Training

**Essential**

- Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in Acute Internal Medicine

**Desirable**

- Attendance at appropriate professional courses

### Circumstances

**Essential**

- Agreement to live within 10 road miles of the hospitals served, or to have access by motorway in the equivalent period of traveling time.

### Personal Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives, and with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Experience of supervising Junior Medical staff in acute Medicine including SDEC work with junior medical staff
- Ability to work and make patient management decisions on own initiative, whilst seeking appropriate guidance from colleagues when required.
- Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues, both medical and other disciplines.
- Enthusiasm for improving the service

**Desirable**

- Experience of supervising junior medical staff and relevant staff in other disciplines.

### Management/Audit

**Essential**

- An understanding of the NHS management responsibilities of consultants. Experience of clinical audit.

**Desirable**

- Attendance at an appropriate management course.

### Legal Requirement

**Essential**

- Inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Should either have, or be within 6 months of obtaining a CSST in Acute Medicine

### Clinical Experience

**Essential**

- Wide experience in all aspects of acute medicine and medicine. To be willing to develop skills as appropriate to the service needs

**Desirable**

- POCUS
- Leadership

### Research/Publications

**Essential**

- Evidence of recent and current research, with relevant publications.

### Professional Interests

- Commitment to CPD

**Desirable**

- Membership of appropriate professional society(s). Knowledge of up-to-date literature

- MB BS or equivalent
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- MRCP or equivalent
