As part of the Royal Free London NHS Trust, we are seeking to appoint a permanent Consultant in Acute Medicine.

This position will be based at Barnet General Hospital. If appointed you will join a committed team of consultants, in our well-developed and respected service. We also pride ourselves on our supportive and forward-thinking culture

### Main duties of the job

If appointed, you would support the Enhanced Care Unit, the acute medical ward and the AAU hub (through which run the acute medical take and SDEC pathways). You will also support the Acute medical team in other areas of service delivery, as and when opportunities arise.

When working in the AAU, you would become part of a team involved in running the fast turnaround bed base in the unit, and also in providing an adjoining same day/same week hot clinic.

You would also play a role in running the virtual ward service, a very exciting and expanding development for patients at our hospital.

You would be on the acute integrated medical on-call rota, supporting weekend and out of hours provision on a 1:8 rota.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a varied and dynamic consultant post that will see you:

- Deliver high-quality care across the Enhanced Care Unit (ECU), Acute Medical Ward, and AAU hub
- Participate in the acute medical take, on a 1:8 weekend and 1:30 weekday rota
- Lead and supervise junior medical staff, and support the department’s educational and teaching activities
- Contribute to and develop a specialist interest
- Engage with audit, quality improvement, clinical governance and research activity

The team you would be joining:

- The successful candidate will join a supportive consultant team who operate a rotating ward/off-ward model with well-structured job planning and protected time for SPA and administration
- Our Acute Medicine service is consultant-led and collaborates closely with specialists across Medicine and Geriatrics.
- The AAU hub receives direct referrals from GPs and the ED via the nurse navigator, and includes services such as:
- Specialty hot clinics
- Virtual wards
- SDEC and AEC pathways
- You’ll be part of a team that values innovation, mentorship, and multidisciplinary working. You will also be encouraged to engage in service transformation and future expansion projects.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
