This post contributes to the provision of a pan-Lanarkshire Clinical and Laboratory Haematology service.

There is on-site ITU, HDU, Renal and Respiratory medicine offering clinical support. The Lanarkshire ENT and Infectious Disease units are also based at Monklands Hospital. Extensive specialist Haematological diagnostic services are supported across all three sites with a Flow Cytometry laboratory onsite at Monklands Hospital. The Scottish PNH Clinic is based at Monklands hospital supported by the Lanarkshire Haematology service.

Paediatric Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Haemophilia Services are based at Regional Facilities within with which there are close links. MDT/MCN meetings are held by videoconferencing across Lanarkshire and with Glasgow.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop specialist interests whilst in post and these may include a disease specific interest, increased involvement in our Clinical trials portfolio, or aspects of laboratory Haematology. Applicants with an interest in Myeloid disorders are particularly encouraged.

The three Hospitals contain the major specialities with active postgraduate education programmes led by the Postgraduate Tutor and Director of Medical Education and a regular programme of medical, surgical and other speciality meetings. The Board and the Department strongly encourage post-graduate education and skill development.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
