### Job overview

We are looking for one Whole-Time Consultant Haematologist with specialist interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.  There will be support for a suitably qualified appointee \[e.g. one who has been awarded or is in preparation for submission for a higher degree and is research active\] to further establish research in Haemostasis and Thrombosis.

Any candidate who wishes to work less than full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should a further vacancy arise shortlisted candidates may be considered.

### Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive Haemostasis and Thrombosis Service.  It is expected that the successful candidate work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice, name on the specialist register for Haematology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. ### Research

**Essential**

- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.

**Desirable**

- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
- A higher degree \[or is preparing for submission for a higher degree\] Is research active

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Name on the specialist register for Haematology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
- MRCP/FRCP and FRCPath or equivalent

**Desirable**

- MD or PhD or equivalent

### Clinical experience

**Essential**

- Specialist training in the clinical management of hematological disorders.
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Haematology
- Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.

**Desirable**

- Enthusiasm to develop a specialty interest in hemostasis and thrombosis
- To have consultant experience in the investigation and management of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders.

- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values .
- Good oral and written communication skills
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).
