We are seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist interest in Cornea, General Ophthalmology and Eye casualty

We are delighted to offer this post to join a team of current 10 Ophthalmology Consultants working both at King’s Mill Hospital and Newark Hospital.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust (SFH NHS FT) is a forward thinking organisation which has made tremendous improvement in patient care over the last few years.  We have an excellent supporting infrastructure with support staff and we are proud of our high reputation for medical training and research.

Both King’s Mill and Newark Hospital also have excellent day-case facilities and out-patient services for all sub-specialties.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder may  be required to undertake sessions at Newark Hospital.

The appointee will join an existing team of consultants providing a comprehensive ophthalmic service to be the western part of North Nottinghamshire and in particular, the residents of Mansfield, Ashfield and Newark districts.

The post holder will demonstrate a wide range of skills and will be asked work flexibly within the department.

**Essential**

- Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit
- Communication skills – to have language competency and communication skills necessary to do the job safely & competently
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies

**Desirable**

- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, or national levels

### Research

**Essential**

- Ability to convert research evidence into clinical practice

**Desirable**

- Publications in peer-reviewed journals

### Teaching

**Desirable**

- Demonstrable ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role
- Postgraduate teaching qualification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the job plan
- Extensive practical ophthalmic experience
- Recent extensive experience/fellowship in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus or other relevant specialty
- Ability to maintain clinical credibility and authority with a multi-professional team including senior trainees

**Desirable**

- At least five years supervised training in an appropriate SpR equivalent training programme
- Attended relevant courses to demonstrate competence and commitment to sub speciality interests

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must hold specialist registration at the time of application.
- Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or equivalent (FRCOphth)
- Completed Paediatric Ophthalmology fellowship within a recognised program

**Desirable**

- Postgraduate qualification (MD/PhD)

### Management & administrative experience

**Desirable**

- The potential to develop management and leadership skills
