The Surgical Unit at Dr Gray's Hospital, NHS Grampian, wishes to recruit one substantive Consultant General Surgeon to join a team of 2 Consultant General Surgeons, 2 Specialist Doctors and 1 Associate Specialist. This is a full time position (10 PA's).

Dr Gray’s Hospital is situated in Elgin, the county town of Moray. The surrounding area is considered to be of outstanding natural beauty. This post offers a unique opportunity to practice surgery in an area with a high quality of life, excellent schools, affordable housing and superb recreational facilities.

The Hospital serves a population of about 132,000 and provides emergency and elective General Surgical Services within the Hospital and at selected Community Hospitals. There are good links with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which is a Tertiary Referral and Major Trauma Centre. Supporting staff include 2 Specialist Trainees, 1 Core Trainee and 4 Foundation Doctors. The Hospital enjoys a strong association with the University of Aberdeen and takes 4th and 5th year medical students.

The post requires a breadth of experience in Elective and Emergency General Surgery (including some Paediatrics and Urology).

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. (licence to practise must be in place prior to starting in post).  For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration  is awarded.  Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.

Key Worker Housing Support

Moray Council are offering temporary accommodation for key workers moving to Moray to support recruitment in the public sector, including NHS roles. This opportunity is designed to help individuals who are unable to secure housing locally while starting their new job.

Applicants must be filling a public sector role such as NHS healthcare professionals eg Consultants, Nurses, Physiotherapists where local skills shortages exist.

You must be moving to Moray from outside the area and must be willing to accept a Short Scottish Secure Tenancy (SSST), which is a temporary housing arrangement.

Key worker points will be awarded based on employer confirmation of recruitment need, and housing will be provided for a minimum of six months, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. This accommodation option allows applicants time to secure permanent housing while addressing local recruitment challenges.

### Audit

**Essential**

- Evidence of previous and continuing commitment to clinical audit.

**Desirable**

- Experience and contribution to Quality Improvement projects

### Ability

**Essential**

- Knowledge of General Surgery commensurate with the completion of training.
- Ability to manage a wide range of general surgical conditions including emergency paediatric cases (over two years of age).

**Desirable**

- A special clinical interest in an aspect of general surgery complementary to interests of current surgeons.
- Experience in laparoscopic surgery.
- JAG accreditation (or equivalent) in diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

- Evidence of commitment to post graduate and under-graduate teaching.

- Attended teaching/communication skills courses.
- Trainer recognition.
- Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate in medical training and clinical/educational supervisor status.
