### Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Whole time General Surgery consultant with a special interest in Colorectal Surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  Based at the Northern General Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

### Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of General Surgical and Colorectal benign (particularly inflammatory bowel disease) and malignant work to enable the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust to fulfil its service agreements with Sheffield Health and other commissioners..

## Person Specification

### CPD

**Essential**

- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

**Desirable**

- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

### Research

**Essential**

- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

**Desirable**

- Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible on date of the interview.
- If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post FRCS General Surgery

**Desirable**

- MD or PhD or equivalent

### Clinical experience

**Essential**

- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in general surgery.
- Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Colorectal (Benign and Cancer)

**Desirable**

- Consultant level experience in general/colorectal
- EExperience in inflammatory Bowel Disease surgery

### Personal attributes

**Essential**

- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- Good oral and written communication skills

### Teaching and training

**Essential**

- Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

### Clinical governance and audit

- Experience in performing clinical audit

- Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
