### Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking Consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM) who will share our passion for driving service improvement and delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.

We welcome applications from Consultants with a specialist interest in one or more of the following areas:

*Respiratory

*Diabetes & Endocrinology

*Cardiology

*Gastroenterology

*Emergency / Acute Medicine

*Stroke

*Geriatric Medicine

This Consultant post sits within a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team, working closely with experienced operational and nursing colleagues. The role also provides excellent opportunities to contribute to the education, supervision, and training of Resident Doctors within General Internal Medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior clinical leadership role that offers diversity, professional challenge, and the ability to make a meaningful impact on both patient outcomes and service development.

This is a standard job plan of 10PA, the exact job plans will be agreed with the successful candidates. On Call commitments in GIM rota to be included.

### Main duties of the job

As a senior clinician within the Trust, the post holder will be expected to provide visible leadership and uphold the highest standards of clinical practice across the specialty. This includes delivering safe, effective, patient centred care and ensuring that clinical decisions are aligned with best practice and Trust priorities. The role requires a consultant who can work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to a positive clinical culture, and support the smooth functioning of services across inpatient and outpatient settings.

A key aspect of the role is the ability to supervise, mentor, and develop medical staff at all stages of training. The post holder will contribute to structured teaching, workplace based assessments, and the wider educational programme within the Directorate. Strong communication skills, a commitment to continuous professional development, and the ability to model high quality clinical behaviours are essential. The consultant will also play an active role in clinical governance, contributing to audit, quality improvement, morbidity and mortality reviews, and the implementation of learning that enhances patient safety and service quality.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in geriatric medicine and general (acute) medicine or equivalent.
- *Initiatives demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the medical care of older adults.
- *Comprehensive clinical experience of geriatric and general (acute) medicine.

**Desirable**

- *A record of research and/or clinical audit interest relating to the acute care of older patients evidenced by publications in peer- reviewed journals or formal reports to health care organisations, OR
- *A period of research leading to a higher degree & a continuing research interest in the field of geriatric medicine.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MRCP or equivalent. Entered on the GMC Register,CCT in general internal medicine or other medical speciality or equivalent within 6 months of interview.

### Additional Criteria

**Essential**

- *Good communication skills and multidisciplinary team working. Able to adapt working pattern to fit changing local circumstances and workflow.
- *Clinical leadership skills.
- *Ability to manage an acute elderly care and unselected general (acute) medical team.
